I don't think a hatchling would be breeding.

I dont think its a burn.Who did you buy it from? They have had a couple certain sellars that have "buggy" issues in the snakes they sell.Since you said he stinks i am thinking internal bugs :(

Until you get him to the vet and figure out what's going on, I personally would keep him on a damp substrate. I would use paper towels or newspaper since it's the most sterile, but I'm sure damp aspen or anything like that would work.

I would say it's the start of an infection. What substrate are you using? By the dark slivers I see, it looks like you could be using coconut dirt. Possibly have some of that up inside the vent causing irritation, but if left alone long enough, an infectioin. A vet visit is in order.

    Good Luck!

Sorry didnt see the hatchling part....just concentrating on the vent. I do think it is an infection....either parasitic or bacterial. The snake needs to see the vet immed. but it looks like he will be doing that! ;)

Looks like some swelling before the Cloacal. Is he/she urating and deficating normally ? I agree with the others as an infection. Which would cause the snake to maybe not drink and might be getting dehydrated in the process.

yes i Went yesterday... he had multiple parasites, i was given five doses of antibiotics s to inject him with every 3 days, and one in 10 days... He is doing a lot better now. i replaced his bedding with paper towels to keep it fresh.
it cost me as much as i paid for the snake it self for the vet bills... but it was worth it.. hes such a sweet little guy. And I'm glad i was able to save him before he got any worse. I'm very disapointed in the breeder that sold him to me. I emailed him and called and the only response i got was him telling me he would call me and he still has yet to do so. Big thanks to any one who looked anything up for me and came on with suggestions on what it could be.
ll let you guys know when he makes a full recovery;)

I am so happy to hear that you were able to get this resolved. Thank you for being such a great and responsible reptile keeper. It looks to me as if you caught this early enough that he will make a great recovery. I hope you hear back from the breeder. If you get a good response or a bad response...write it up on Fauna Classifieds...Board of Inquiry. I always check them out when I am considering buying anything from anyone.

Also I don't remember if you stated this was your first reptile or not......if it is not and you have others you may want to take in a fecal sample for the docs to check out just in case.

PS - Im giving you a good rep point because you were so quick to have this taken care of and did not let you snake sit and suffer. Trust me....I have seen the other side and it is awful.
