I'd like to request that all participants in this thread, and other threads like this, think before they post. Some of the comments we've seen here are coming across like 12 year old's having a spat in the lunchroom.

Respectful, intelligent debate is NOT about calling someone a silly name or referring to posts as nothing more worthy than toilet paper. Debate offers respect that goes both ways. Good debate informs and gives us something to think about even if we don't agree. Disagreeing with someone doesn't automatically give anyone the right to openly disrespect them or their ideas.

Think about this please. Good threads end up getting knocked way off course far too often because of this sort of completely avoidable online behaviour. Debate all you want, present your opposing view, support one side or the other but do it with the same respect you'd want your own posts given please.

I don't know JAS well. However, if JAS had meant it any other way when he said "Mr. Smarty Pants", I highly doubt that he would have said "Mr. Smarty Pants".

Not that it will make one iota of difference, I want the mods to know that I believe that JAS is being treated unfairly. I've been frustrated with the atmosphere around here for a while now, and if I was fanning the flames carelessly, I would have been MUCH more outspoken than I was. I fanned them very CAREFULLY. I know the context in which you called him a butthead. And I have a pretty good feeling for the context in which he said "Mr. Smarty Pants".

    Thanks for your concern.

After staff review and discussion, it was agreed that John's infraction should be reversed and as of this posting it has been reversed.

Staff does not take the infraction system lightly and we do work very hard to self-monitor ourselves and fully discuss why an infraction was given and why it might be subject to review for reversal.

Please note Joanna's post, and continue to have respectful debate and not poke sticks at someone you may not get along with. Thank you!
