    Dottie the high white pied
Ok figure I'll start an official thread for Dottie as i just had random posts here and there. I've had her since she was a little 90g 12" worm. Now 3 years later and she is a big 4.5' 1624g girl. I'll start out with some outdoor pics of her today since it was sunny. She wasnt being the most cooperative as i think she wanted to enjoy the first outing of the year lol.https://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...e637cb86_h.jpghttps://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...bd718525_h.jpghttps://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...4ad9d4f2_h.jpghttps://ball-pythons.net/forums/cach...48c45fef_h.jpg

Thanks. She's such a pain though for eating lol. When she was a baby, she ate anything that got close to her. Now that she is older, she doesnt eat for months on end lol. Last time she ate was back in February. I offer her a rat weekly still but nope, she just either goes the other way or cruises past it to go check out something else haha. Good thing Caesar my retic is the ultimate garbage can and NEVER turns down food.

Actually that was her old cage. She is in a AP T8 now. In the pic, it's the lower right cage.

All of them except Caesar lol. He actually seemed kind of scared of the outside and spent the whole wrapped on me so i couldnt really get good pics of him. He was settling down after a little while outside. I'm sure he will be fine with more time outside but the rest seem to enjoy. Gina, Rosey and Luna seem to like it the best and look around all over flicking their tongues lol.

Thanks and honestly, i dont think she cares haha. She spends most of her time inside one of her hides and then in the evenings, she will sometimes sit half out of a hide just lounging. She is the ultimate in lazy lol.

So i wake up this morning to find a nice rolled up shed in Dottie's warm hide. Kind of funny as she hasnt eaten in 4 months yet she shed and grew. Go figure.

Interesting. My BP fasted 6 months and did not shed till she had a few meals in her. I think it was like 280ish days since her last shed.

Now keep in mind that she is 16 years old, so no real growth expected.

Dang i thought 4 months was pretty long. Six months blows me outta the water haha. Oh she also dropped a huge urate too after shedding which amazed me as well.

And Dottie will be 4 years old this November.

Hahah yeah Geoffrey just came off a 6 month fast a little over a month ago. He turns 8 sometime this summer I'd guess. He's an '09 hatchling.

Well thats good to know. I was actually starting to worry a little as Dottie usually just goes about 3 months without food but that usually ends around Mar. This year she has been weird and didnt actually quit eating until Feb where as she usually quit around Nov/Dec. Maybe the weird weather we've been having up here has thrown her off. her weights are still fine. She weighed 1620g before shedding and urate dropping, now after she is 1605g so i guess that big urate could have been 15g.

The other snakes seem happy Dottie isnt eating as Caesar was digging an extra rat every week but now that he is on jumbo rats, he has issues trying to figure out small rats haha. They are tiny compared to him. Vicky likes them though as she is on medium rats so smalls arent too bad for her but i dont like to feed her a small rat every week. She already seems to be on the chunky side to me lol.

Wow haven't posted any pics of Dottie in a while. Here are a few of her exploring the floor. She's actually worse than Caesar when you leave a door open. She doesn't bother to relax in the cage, she will come out of the hide, drop to the floor and begin exploring haha. I guess she didn't get the memo of being shy lol.

She's about 4.5' long, 5 years old end of next month and at last weigh in was 1630g. But that after her 6 month fast. I havent weighed her since then and she has been pounding 2 small rats or 1 medium rat every week the past 3 months lol. I probably will get a new weight once she poops so i have a reference again since winter is coming up.

oh, an optical illusion then. Godzilla is 5 feet long and 2750 grams. So Dottie just looks super long, as she is a bit skinnier and her head looks smaller relatively. Any plans on breeding her?

Nah, she is just a pet. If i was going to breed anything, I would pick up another 100% Rio Bravo Pokigron Suriname from Chris Wolf and breed them or pick up a female Meltzer/Lincoln BCL and breed them. I've always been more of a boa person.

Been awhile since i posted a pic of Dottie the monster. Well caught her outside before lights out wandering around and having fun. She is such a big girl now. Hard to believe i got her about 4.5 years ago as a little 90 gram worm who was left in a wet, poop filled cage at Petsmart. Now she is a cage destroying big girl lol. And yes, those large RBI hides are too small for her but she still loves them to death so who am i to say no.

BP's do love their small hides. I had one that would just "move" her hide to whichever spot she liked. Then she had it on her like a large "hat" , LOL

Haha yup, thats what Dottie does. She pushes them around to where on the hot spot and cool spot she wants them. And half the time she will have 1/2 her fat bum hanging out from under it. If it was the wild, she would have been dinner for something a long time ago haha.

Yeah, they don't seem to be the "smartest" of all snake species, but you just HAVE to love them. Its nice at times to just relax with one of those doofuses rather then dodge strikes or do the windmill with your arms for one of those fast ones, or wrangle a huge one, or get peed and pooped on by a ticked off one.

Sometimes you just want a Ball Python in your arms ;) LOL

Thanks. She was a little 90g 12 inch worm that was labeled a biter and had to be assist fed. She bit everyone in the store and was in a wet dirty cage in the back room. I got her for $200 and when i got her home, within 3 days, she ate like a horse and didnt quit until she hit 1000+ grams. Now at last weigh in, she was like 2600 grams or something. Dont really remember. And the only time she bit me was when i forgot to wash my hands after handling rats. She thought my finger was a bald scrawny rat but she was willing to try and drag it into her hide to eat it lol.

Anyways, that plant is a prayer plant. I picked a marbled pothos for Pat today as it was an awesome looking plant, a golden pothos for Rango, jade pothos for Gina, and N'joy pothos for Louie. And Luna has the parlor palm now.

Well here is a not so good of pic i snapped of her just now. She is doing the Dottie thing. The cage is 2 feet deep so you can kind of see how big she is. Last time i checked, she was about 4.5 feet. She might be a little longer now as she just shed a few days ago.

And she has already broken a leaf off the prayer plant lol. And Luna, tried to dig in the pot and broke one of the fronds as well as tear up half the soil in the plant pot. i swear, those 2 might be smaller but they tear it up with the best of them.

She's pretty... Looks good and healthy too. Sophie tares her enclosure to pieces at night. In the morning her hides are against the glass doors and in the middle touching eacher. Last night at 2am she was crawling around stretched all the way across the enclosure with her tail hooked in the opposite hide dragging it around hahahaha

If you're looking for something a little more durable, I've heard good things about the monstera genus. Dracaena plants are cool, too - a smaller version is the compacta Janet Craig, and while it can get tall, they're extremely slow-growing and have higher temp requirements than most plants (up to 86F-ish).
