No one can really answer that for you. Have young males sucessfully bred? Yes. Will yours? It all depends on the individual animal. You need to be able to read your animals - at the time you are wanting to breed him - what is his body condition, is he easily stressed, etc? Not anything that you can answer right now. Best NOT to count on it, and just be pleasantly surprised if he is.

it varries, and depends on the male. I have a late 08 male that is breeding now, supposidly his dad bred young too, but that doesnt mean every male will

It's possible, it's not a sure thing. I've had a 6 month old male breeding for me, he was also a very good eater and about 350g by that time. I've also tried breeding a male at a year and a half that was over 500G, not only did he not breed but he totally freaked out. He quit eating dropped a lot of weight quickly and if I hadn't resorted to using a pinky pump to get some food into him he would have died.

Just keep an eye on him and make that determination next year. But be realistic, If you don't have a good feeling about breeding him, then don't try.

If what you are trying to ask is if he will be breeding size by next season, then

if he is a good eater then yes he should make weight by next season. I have a

normal male that was hatched January of 09 and he is already 500g even. But

that is because he has only refused food once. So again I would say yes, if he

is a good eater he will make weight by next year. Now getting him to breed,

that's another story. As said earlier it all depends on the particular animal.

    Good luck!!!!!

Everything they said was spot on. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, learn to read your animals, and let them tell you when they are ready.

Making weight isn't the main factor in being a viable breeder.

I would agree with the rest. Don't count on it.

If you want something that will breed next year for sure, buy a proven breeder male.

I would give him a year. I mean lets look at it this way. Can a 14 year old human girl get pregnant? Yes. But she isn't ready. He may be another species and another sex but its the same basic idea. I would wait till he is at least a year and a half to be sure that he is mature. I am waiting till both my snakes are 3 before breeding and Ki is 2 while Cali is 10 months so she has a bit to go. Give him some time. but thats just me

question, would a newly ready male breed to a much older female? does age/size play a factor in breeding?

girls may not be ready to get pregnant, but doesn't mean they are not ready to "go" at that age. and unless something is wrong, a 14yo boy will be sneaking magazines and smut channels, and talking dirt talk with the "dudes".

so.... i think your analogy works as to why you should not breed young underweight females. i don't feel this applies to males.

but as others said, it's a coin toss; he could mate, he could freak out, or he could sit there. won't know unless you try, if it's worth it to you to do so.
