    feeding
so i just got a bp last week n it was his normal feeding day and i kinda figured he wouldnt eat cause of the whole transition process of moving from the pet store to my home.but i still thought it wouldnt hurt to try.

i got a frozen rat and he wouldnt eat it, go figure. so is it ok that i refreeze it and try again today?will he take a refrozen rat?

o and he just shed last night, will he still eat even though he just shed?does shedding affect his diet?

You can try to feed him a frozen thawed again, but if he doesn't eat, I suggest trying a live.

I would also wait a week before attempting to feed again. By continually trying to make him eat, you are only inducing more stress and it will only take longer for him to adjust. Try feeding him once a week and if he doesn't take it, just wait until the following week and then try again. ;)

I can't beleive the most important part of his post was ignored.

No, it's not OK to re-freeze a rat to try and use it again, doing so could cause harm to the snake.

...You can refreeze them once... as long as they haven't been sitting out forever. Don't do it more than once though.

How could it harm the snake exactly?

Yeah I mean once is not a big deal. I wouldn't make a habit of it though if your snake refuses. Also, as others have said, just wait 7 days before offering it again. Then you will have a better chance of the snake eating for you. :gj:

While I don't do it often I'm ok with refreezing a F/T item once but if its refused the second time then I throw it out.

the way I see it is this:

if it's not good enough for me it's not good enough for my snakes.

would you buy frozen meat, thaw it, re-freeze it, thaw it then eat it? I certainly wouldn't so neither do my snakes.

I don't know all the scientific ins-and-outs but I know that its better off not done. To do with bacteria and decomposition. Personal preference I suppose

Yeah, I agree. Personally, I never re-freeze anything that goes uneaten, regardless of whether it is for me or my snakes. However, I do have other snakes which I can feed the mice or rat to instead, should one of them not be hungry. It usually ends up being my small Royal Python hatchling that refuses food, as he is a very inconsistent eater. His dinner is a mere snack/appetizer compared to my Burm's! ;) Ahaha. Although, I know that there are a lot of people who might not be able to do this, and, therefore, will choose to re-freeze the prey item in order not to waste it. I would just never recommend doing this more than once, or for it to become a regular habit, as a lot of people have already said :) Snakes do have a highly efficient digestive system, so it shouldn't be too bad from time to time! If in doubt, throw it away ;) I'd rather have peace of mind though, just to be on the safe side!
