getting first ever pair of boas. couple questions.

i know alot of people use aspen for there boas, but i also read that they are more inclined to get digestive problems than balls. i had to take my ball off of aspen because the sub would always get in her mouth. would a baby be ok on newspaper and plenty of hides and foliage?

i also want to keep them in tubs. will a uth be enough in a room about say..70 degrees? like a human temp room, not a heated snake room.

i've also noticed in alot of tank setups people have the aboreal bamboo sticks (don't know if i said that right) am i right in that boas like to climb? if i get a bamboo stick will they use it? i had some limbs for my ball but she never used it.

just trying to make sure i have everythign in order before my FIRST EVER pair comes. i'm soo excited.

Boas and balls are waaaay different :)
My boas have an aspen play area (they like to hide sometimes) and I use kraft paper as the substrate throughout the cage.
My boas really like to climb and that is why I am getting them permanent cages with height as well as length ;)
Bcc's are known to have digestive issues, especially when young, but Bci's are pretty sturdy little snakes.
Can't speak to UTH questions (or tubs) as I house my boas in RBI cages and use RHP's for heat :)

I've got my hog island boa in a tub with a log. He does climb on it quite a bit. He's only a few months old, when he gets bigger I plan to put him in a taller enclosure. I also take him out a couple times a week. He really likes the "arm tree." My tubs are in a room that is about 68 degrees. I did put some more insulation around both my racks for the winter. They are both keeping good temps because of the extra insulation.

I've always had a personal issue with aspen leaving boas too close to the heat when they burrow. Whenever I used aspen I always put a layer or two of newspaper under it so it would create a more radiance of heat and not leave the boa exposed to the heat source so much.

As long as the uth you use will allow the temps to compensate for the low room temps, sure. With my daughter's rosy boa (which is the only boa outside my snake room and in a tank) I used a smaller uth on the side to boost up the ambients and that's worked pretty darn good for us.

Boas are extremely curious and will use anything you put in there ;)

we have 2 hides, aspen and a vine thing in our boa's tub and she likes to climb on her rock hide alot and go for a dip occasianally

neat! i wonder if i could put a huge container of aspen in there. kind of like a sandbox for snakes. and juat take it out when it's time to eat. i assume moist aspen has to be cleaned pretty regularly.
