These guys look incredible!

A pair of cresties and habitat + equipment just made the top of my x-mas list. I was always turned off of actually getting a lizard no matter how much I wanted one because the ones I looked into (bearded dragon and others) were a little bit higher maintenance than I was interested in.

Are cresties really as easy to care for and breed as I've read? I love that they are nocturnal, live well at room temperature, can thrive on formula/powdered diets, and stay small enough to be able to have a handful of them without running out of room for cages.

If only I could justify spending the $ right now! Oh well, I'm putting some random crap up on craigslist that I have no use for anyhoo, maybe I'll put that $ towards some cresties.

they are really easy. No expensive thermostats either

No animal is 'cheap' as long as you take care of it properly. There are always maintenance costs and unforeseen costs, such as vet bills.


If you legit like cresties and will care for them and know what they need to thrive, by all means do it. But I think it's irresponsible to take on an animal because you thinks it will cost less in the long run than something else. Something always comes up, and unless you actually care about the animal you're caring for some people just won't help it out.

well wen u put it into perspectives as in vet bills yes..its not cheap as in any animal, but as in husbandry..why not go with something that is cheaper

Before i had my cresties, I was thinkin at either a bearded dragon or a crested gecko.

Adult bearded dragons need a large habitat, high basking temperatures and nice diet of veggies and stuff. Is it irresponsible of me to pick the easier cresty b/c I do not have the space for it, or the money. I think its responsible to pick an animal that you know you can take care of well as opposed to picking up an animal u cannot support.

No, in fact you sound like you know what you're talking about, which is always good. It just always worries me when people talk about taking the 'cheaper' option, especially without considering overall cost of the animal, so I decided to say something, that's all I was going for.

Depends on where you get your crested geckos. Some high end ones are pretty pricey to me. :D

I hope that I didn't give the impression that I thought cresties were cheap.. in fact I thought my post said exactly otherwise, I just thought it was cool that these guys don't need to be fed 50 crickets a day among other things that some other lizards might need.
