I am so stoked about this clutch!

If I (and a few others) are right about the "hidden gene", that it's another version of the whitesnake gene but invisible unless paired with another whitesnake gene like Lesser, then this single "sib" he produced is actually the first known Homozygous Hidden Gene!

If Ralph raises this girl up and breeds her to a pure Lesser BEL male, then all the babies will hatch out Plattys!

You might be right. But there's only one "sib". A Platty is a co-dominant trait, so this only "sib" could also b the 25% chance of breeding 2 co-dominants together that makes a normal....

when I hear the word "hidden gene" I always think about Ebony.

I "read" that Ivory breed with specific genetic granite will produce Ebony, but how come I never seen any "Ebony" for sale?

My guess is that it's not "genetic granite" that make Ebony, but rather some normal with hidden gene that make Ebony.

Still there should be more Ebony in the market that sire from the original Ebony...unless the breeder sell them privately.

The main cool thing is that it proves that it's possible for platy X platy to produce a normal looking offspring.

The allele theory for platy is the only one I've heard so far that makes since so I think this is a homozygous for the hidden/sib/dilute mutation. Too bad it's a female as it will take a long time to grow up but hopefully RDR will then breed it to a homozygous lesser leucistic and let us know if it produces 100% platy as predicted by the allele theory.

By the way, RDR should have lots of homozygous hidden/sib/dilute adults from his many crosses of normal looking patty offspring together. The problem is that it's only 25% of those clutches and apparently looks normal.
