Scarlet snakes

About a month and a half ago I was working on a job and dug up four snake eggs, I knew they wouldn't survive if I left them on the job so I kept them. Finally they hatched and I now have 3 tiny scarlet snakes, about 6 inches long... The problem is I have no idea what to feed them because they are so small. And it seems that most scarlet snakes primarily eat other reptiles eggs.

Does anyone have any ideas what to feed them? I caught a tiny lizard and an earth worm but so far they haven't been interested in them. I would just release them tbh its going to be very hard to find food for them. Let them go where you see lots of small lizards and skinks. I am no expert on them. But you did your good deed. Now they have a fighting chance. Good job by you. Good luck

I'd try the smallest mouse pinkies I could find. If that didn't work, cut tails off of f/t mice and scent them with a bit of tuna juice.

I was thinking about a mouse tail... I think they are too small for any mouse pinkies right now, they are about 6 inches long and very thin... about as big around as an earth worm and not much longer.

You don't think the mouse scent on a tail would be enough? I've never heard of scenting something with tuna for a snake before

You're right, at this age they probably wouldn't be eating rodents. They might go for tadpoles which is why I suggested something fishy to scent it. You can also purchase amphibian scents but they're quite pricey, plus you'd have to pay for frozen shipping.

Letting them go is probably best.

I will probably let them go, I already knew that I may not be able to feed them. I would love to be able to keep one if I can find something for it to eat, I went out and found a lizard egg a little while ago. I'll try feeding one tonight.

What a cool find...I'm glad that at least you managed to protect them, but as already said, I'd probably release them too. You could try newborn "premie" mice if you can
find them...but I'm a mouse breeder & I don't even get many of those very often. When I do, I freeze them- never know when they come in handy, as they did when I
took in a wild-caught hatchling Western longnose snake years ago. They're small snakes with similar eating habits, & that snake lapped them pinkies up like crazy, lol.

Those scarlets are so pretty, but if you love the look, just get a c/b Sinaloan milk snake...you'll be able to feed it, at least.

That's awesome about the western :D i'm sure those tiny pinkies will help you out sometime when nothing else will do!

I'm not worried about keeping any of them, I just wanted to because I hatched them :P if I could feed them of course.
