Substrate/Humidity Question

So, I just put in the coco fiber substrate for the first time (using the brick type). It looks much better than my previous paper towel/newspaper method, but it's made my humidity shoot up overnight. Last night it was in the mid 60%s, but this morning it was in the mid 80%s! Especially on the warm side, where the water is turning into vapor more quickly, so it's not dry :(

I don't want my snake to get scale rot or anything - so I've taken the lid off his tank for now and am keeping an eye on things. What do you guys do with this substrate to keep humidity in an ideal range? Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Right now, I'm thinking about switching out all of the substrate for some loose coco fiber substrate that I won't have to get wet... I don't want the warm side of his tank to be too damp. Any recommendations appreciated!

It happens. It'll probably take a few days to come down, but your snake will be fine in the meantime.

Next time just let the substrate dry a bit more.

If it's real bad you could always use a towel or paper towel to pat down the substrate and soak up some moisture.

I was thinking of getting a loose substrate from the store and putting it on the dry side, then using the damp concentrate substrate on the humid side. Is there anything wrong with using two different substrates? I think it would help with my worries about humidity and fear of scale rot/lung infection, at least, but if you all think it's a bad idea, I'll leave what I have now.

No issue at all with that. I use a blend of EcoEarth and ReptiBark. I like that it maintains humidity well, spot cleans easy, absorbs odor and looks naturalistic. It's also not as messy or dusty as some substrates.
