GTP stuck shed
My GTP shed the other day first time since I got him. But he has a lot of stuck shed all along his back. He got off the shed all on his head, belly and tail.
I need opinions on what to do though. I tried putting him in a container with a saturated towel for a couple hours, then I was going to try to use a damp cloth to help get it off, but he was freaking out so bad and trying to get away so much. Put him back in his cage after he soaked. Was hoping the soak would help, but when I got back from work he still had the stuck shed all along his back.
I'm not sure what to do. If I should try again, but don't want to stress him so much. I saw some people said to leave it for the next shed? But its so much would hate to do that. Just need your guys opinions.
Also the humidity is high and stays perfect. So not sure why it was stuck so bad.

Re: GTP stuck shed
Put him in a small Tupperware box with water up to his midsection with a towel. Put the whole thing in the cage to keep it warm for an hour. The old shed should come off easy.
Cage humidity is only a small part. Most shed issues are from an inadequately hydrated animal. I would inject the feeders with water. I don't even raise humidity when in shed and both mine have perfect sheds.

Yea I put him in a tupperware container with a towel and water for over an hour. It looks like a couple tiny pieces of the shed came off, but thats about all. So not sure if I should do that again, and try to manually take it off. Or just soak again and see if it comes off on its own.

Re: GTP stuck shed
Soak him for a couple hours then. You don't want to have to remove it with force as that's not good for either of you. If the shed is fresh it shouldn't be hard to come off. If it has dried and hardened, you might be sol. Just start injecting the prey with water and make sure the snake has a big bowl easy to find. Also try to keep the humidity higher as he has stuck shed. Really though, you don't need a constant high humidity. I spoke mine to 80 and then let it dry out to 40

GTP stuck shed
If you’re gonna soak ...stay with it .i never leave them soaking unattended.
Then have a very damp , rough textured bath towel ready ..
After the soak wrap him up in the towel and let him slither around in there for a while .. keep covering him up with the towel when his head keeps popping out ..... all the time keep applying very gentle pressure .. any dead skin ( or even retained eyecaps ) will be on the towel ..

That is very interesting about injecting the feeders with water. I have been fortunate with my ETB and GTP as both regularly drink from their water dish when the lights go out. So far "knocks on wood" I have not had any shed issues. Out of curiosity, how much water do you inject into your feeders and does it matter where? Thanks for the tip. This is definitely good info to know.

Re: GTP stuck shed
I just inject about half a ml into a mouse. I use those insulin syringes you can get at Walgreens.

So I soaked him again. After he soaked I used a textured glove and let him crawl through it. It got some off, but there is still like a 1 and a half or less inch strip of stuck shed past his neck. I just had to put him up. He was freaking out so bad, bit me over and over and pooped also while trying to get away.
Think it's ok to leave for now? I don't want to stress him out more than I have to.

Re: GTP stuck shed
I'd just leave the rest until next shed. If he was that stressed, I wouldn't bug him. An inch strip on a full grown snake isn't much and he should shed that off next shed.
