Quick question about heat pad with thermostat probe
I know everyone says you got to sandwich the probe inbetween the plastic and the heat pad. But i find that bubble to be very annoying and it makes some of the pad not even touch the plastic. So if i were to tape the probe to the buttom underneath the heat pad instead of the adhesive side for say. So i could eliminate that bubble but probe still be on heat pad. would it do the same thing?. Or does it absolutely need to be sandwiched?

Mine is placed on the outside of the heat mat, because I forgot to put it in between when I put the heat mat on. No issues at all.

Okay thank you. exactly what im looking for. because that bubble presents alot of problems. like the pad doesent fully touch. and its irritating that theres a bubble. and pushes pad more off the plastic its annoying

I’ve also noticed that when it’s not sandwiched between, I get a far more accurate reading. When it’s on the outside, my thermostat is set at 88 and my temp gun inside the glass reads 90. When it’s sandwiched, because all that heat is contained around the probe, the thermostat is reading higher, like 105, but glass is reading 90.
If that makes any sense.

I used Gorilla tape that is rated to 210°. Taped the cord, left the probe exposed.

I usually do below on tubs, but only when the cage is on something solid and fairly insulating. If I ever put a tub on a plastic rack with holes in the shelves, I just carve a slot into some 1/2" insulation foam and set the tub/mat on top of the foam. The insulating material beneath helps keep heat and measurements steady in my experience.
Only times I have probes above a heat source is in my T8s where it has a slot carved into the PVC above where the heat tape goes. No bubble with herpstat probes, so I use those.
