What is this parasite?

I found this in my bp’s tank tonight. Any ideas what it is? Couldn’t find anything that fit the bill on google.

Nothing to note re behaviour, appetite, husbandry issues etc.

I don't know but what substrate are you using? I'm thinking it may have come in the substrate (if you're using mulch or something like that?) & isn't a parasite
from the snake, like nothing I've seen anyway. Is that still moving (ie. alive?), 'cause it looks like part is missing?

I use coconut coir. I too thought it looked more like a dirt bug than a gut bug. I haven’t seen any bugs flying or crawling around the soil, but it’s been summer so who knows.

It doesn’t look alive, not moving at all. I don’t think it was severed: the black end seems to be the lead and it’s got a blunt back end. I found it in the water dish.

I'm no entomologist, plus you probably have some different insects in Canada that are different from what we see down here in the south (U.S.), but to me,
it looks like something that changes into some kind of beetle-thing...I can't think of the right term, lol, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Hopefully it's the
only one you find?

I'm in the same boat as Bogertophis, it looks like a larvae for either a beetle or a gnat of some sort. Unlikely to cause any issue with your BP, though I'd keep an eye out for more just in case you need to clean them out too.

Just don't make the same I did and google pictures of "coconut worms." Apparently they're a delicacy, so saw all sorts of people eating them. :dead:

"Larvae", that's the term I was trying to say, thanks for that & also for the "coconut worms" warning...ugh! shudders!
