I use coconut coir. I too thought it looked more like a dirt bug than a gut bug. I haven’t seen any bugs flying or crawling around the soil, but it’s been summer so who knows.
It doesn’t look alive, not moving at all. I don’t think it was severed: the black end seems to be the lead and it’s got a blunt back end. I found it in the water dish.

Just don't make the same I did and google pictures of "coconut worms." Apparently they're a delicacy, so saw all sorts of people eating them. :dead:
"Larvae", that's the term I was trying to say, thanks for that & also for the "coconut worms" warning...ugh! shudders!
