Second Mouse, and frustrated musings
Upped Cookie's feeding to two large mice in one feeding. He's gotten really big. Half the size of a 100% full grown royal!
He's still shy around others, but he's taken to being comfortable enough to fall asleep on me. Which is somewhat bad since he becomes far more easily startled when he does... so lately, I've stopped taking him out other than every week doing a check up to make sure he's doing ok. So I think in a short while he won't remember me and yea. Might have to re-socialize?
First mouse he took as he usually does. Second mouse I accidentally dropped and really ticked off Cookie to the point where he was in cobra stance and staring my hand down. Completely ignoring the mouse. I didn't want him striking and either biting me or a hard object that wasn't the mouse, so I let a piece of paper towel fall over his face. Got the mouse out quickly before he came out from under that and immediately he honed in on the mouse and snagged it more aggressively than I'm used to. I closed and covered his tank back up. I'm half expecting to find that he didn't eat that second mouse.
Some guy at work told me to put motor oil on my snake? Said that he did it to his Burm, kept her covered for five minutes before washing her off. Said she got full size quicker than normal. All I could think was... why?
Some snakes grow faster than others. So you decided to cover them in something and coincidentally your snake happens to grow fast... so you're telling people to do this? There CANT be any merit to this...

Sounds like a great idea if you want a scaleless snake, that will do the trick, oil based substance loosen scales which start falling off there after. This is why even oil based ointments are not recommended long term.
Sadly there are many people out there that have owned snakes for years yet still have no clue simply because they do not care to learn anything about the animal they own (this guy is the proof of that).

I mean... more natural oils like from vegetables, I could see being argued if you were ignorant. But motor oil is not something even someone ignorant could mistake as being something ok for skin in general.
For one it's a different type of oil. For another it's bad for OUR skin. And another it's not edible. (if it's non-consumable then it isn't healthy to be absorbed by the skin.) so even the dumbest of the dumb, to be quite frank, should know better.
Part of me really hopes this was one of those "you should pour boiling water on your iced over windshield" type of advice, and he was just pulling off the "I believe this is good advice I'm giving" deal really well.
