New ball python rescue - skin problem?
Hi everyone, this is my first time on the forum, so hello.

I recently rescued a ball python from kijiji who I have named Jose. he came with rough, irritated skin all along his spine. Any idea as to what this might be? I've heard burns suggested. Is there any other factor which could contribute to this problem? Maybe he was kept in low humidity, improper diet?

Any ideas welcome. If he has something contagious I want to make sure my other python doesn't catch it.

    Thanks,
    Sandy

Without pics and an idea of what his temp, humidity, substrate, etc has been, it's hard to diagnose. It could be a bad she'd, it could possibly be an infection or illness of some kind. I would definitely keep him separate from your other snake. Wash your hands in between handling. Check his mouth for rot. Check his vent for issues. Some scale issues are from low humidity, but some can be from excessive humidity. If he has no other issues, make sure his temp and humidity are appropriate. Make sure he has a soak on his warm side and one on his cool side. But I would avoid a moisture rich or moisture retaining substrate like coco for now.

I'm not sure how to add a photo. Do I have to post a certain number of times to add an attachment?

Looks like a burn or bite injury that is still healing up.

Looks like a snake that tried to go through something a little too small for it and got scraped up, in my opinion.
