Help important

my python hasn't ate on day the day he usually does but he did strike at his food. my friend is coming over later is it ok to handle him or take him out later in a few hours??

I recommend trying to get him to eat again, try there or four times, and if he still doesn't eat, I'd wait about a week before trying to feed him again, as for handling, if he eats, you shouldn't handle him, if he doesn't it is okay, but it might stress him out a little.

I would not, if he did strike it was a defensive strike, im having the same issue with one of my snakes, and im keeping stress to a minimun and no handling until she eats again, i only go in her cage to change the water and try to give her food. Its more important to get him to eat than to handle, youre gonna have 20+ years to handle. Do you feed in a "feeding box"?

Even if they did use one, I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean you need to still use one in order for her to eat. Feeding boxes are bad news anyways. If she was raised eatin in one of them, it shouldn't matter, especially since I'm assuming she's already eaten for you before in her tank, @Gc99 correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree. Feeding boxes do not have any benefits, they just add stress to the snake

Could I ask why people on here seem to think feeding boxes are so bad? Other than stress?

I've fed mine in one since I've had him and he seems fine. Doesn't show any signs of being stressed. He immediately strikes and constricts and eats up! I usually leave him in the box for about an hour after he has eaten and then gently move him back to his enclosure.

the fact is this is not a typical experience. more often than not, attempting to feed in a separate feeding enclosure has a chance of putting snakes off feed and causing stress. the benefits do not outweigh the risks here. your one experience does not apply to all snakes, while the majority of keepers/breeders have learned through experience that a separate enclosure AT BEST provides no benefit to the snake, and AT WORST causes stress and refusals.
