    Need help with temperatures
Hi there! I have finally set up my melamine rack with a Herpstat 2 and I have a question regarding the proper temperature...
I currently have two ball pythons, a 5+ year old and a 1 year old... What would be the best daytime and nighttime temperature for them?
Should I put the tubs where the flexwatt is to make sure the tubs are durable as well?
Would the temperature of my house matter? It remains about 65-80 degrees (Fahrenheit) but my room is pretty humid/dense feeling & I plan to get a fan soon.

    TIA. <3

Hot side 90*F, let the cool side float with the room temp but I'd try to keep the ambient in the room at least 72*F. No night drop is needed.

Okay, cool! That's actually what I put as the test temperature when it got set up. Thank you so much, I appreciate it. I wasn't so sure about the night temperature, I will definitely keep the house at about 72-75 nightly, my mom prefers it that way anyways. Hopefully the fan won't interfere too much...

I try and think of temp in threes, the general ambient, the cool hide and the warm hide, 78, 80 & 90 respectively. as long as they have a 90 hot spot, they will deal, but it seems with ours that a good 78-80 ish ambient temp results in them being out more at night, lounging about... at least thats after a day or two on the hot spot post meal.

That doesn't sound complicated at all, I could easily hold that... :0 I am just ecstatic to finally start using my rack after holding back on it for a few months... Been through some bad situations with their tanks & unregulated UTH... so this will be a great start for us and so much better. Thank you!

the great thing about a herpstat 2 is that you can use one probe for the cooler hide and one for the hotter hide, regulating two independent UTH's/flexwats. i favor low wattage heat sources, it allows you to seal up the enclosure and maintain humidity. depending on room temperature, using some insulation can be a big help, but it does take away from the sleek look for some of the fancier enclosures. I use fish tanks on their side, using the top as a front entry, adding plexi for the door. it takes substantial fabrication, but it's a matter of paying it forward for me, once everything is dialed in, the long term maintenance is a synch, allowing for vacations and such without relying on a friend to take on a hard to monitor/adjust task. if you are interested you can look through my gallery for some of my creations. it would be great is someone would make an all in one thermostat controlled low watt heat source that can go inside the tank, where all the heat can be contained. I've had to go to some extremes to modify UTH's by mounting them on pains of thick glass, but they are working great.

So, I have a question... The Herpstat is set to 90*F and is showing 89.9 to 90*F... Turning the power surge off if it passes that to cool down -- Now, the Herpstat shows 22%, does that mean anything? I feel warmth from the flexwatt, definitely, should I invest in a thermometer gun or are Herpstats actually accurate? My ball pythons are still in their tanks until I figure this out and move them.
I will definitely check out how the cool side is going though, temperature wise. :)

A temp gun is nice to actually measure the temp where your bp sits on. If the flexwatt is 90* that means a degree or two will get lost until the actual spot where your bp lays inside the tub. So pretty much you want the inside of the tub on the floor directly over the flexwatt temp to be 90* so you may have to set your herpstat to say....92* because you may loose 2* from the plastic. But you would need temp gun (and the cheap ones are only like 10$ on amazon just make sure to get one with a +-1* reading accuracy) to accurately read the temp inside the tub

I'll definitely invest in one! I want to make sure that my snakes are getting the proper heat. :) Does the percent on the Herpstat 2 matter? The highest I've seen it get is 29% at 90*F.
