New snake arrival and feeding.

My first question is .
Snake arrives tomorrow morning from outback reptiles what is best settling in time? Of course when she arrives iam going to check her out and everything make sure shes Ok. After that how long of a period should I allow to settle in too new surroundings before handling and feeding? In past although 8 years plus ago I never handled my snakes the day before or after feeding them.
Also this where I plan too have the tank until I get each system and or custom built cage..

Second question...
The breeder is feeding her sub-adult mice I want to switch her to frozen /thawed rat pups what is the best way to get her too make the switch??

I know it's usually recommended to let them settle in for a week but the last 2 I've bought I fed the day after I got them and they both ate. I wait until the snake has ate 4 or 5 times consistently before handling. When your ready to handle you should wait 48 hrs after feeding. You should feed what the breeder was offering until it has ate consistently and then try switching to f/t rat pups. If the breeder was feeding live you may have to start with live pups and work your way to f/t, some switch easy and some take time.

Yeah they definitely can be lol but if it refuses just wait a week and try again.

If your snake is going to arrive tomorrow I would setup tank and adjust thermostat and make sure temps and everything are where you want them to be. Keep monitoring your temps and humidity and make adjustments and keep everything running so when your snake arrives you can put it right in knowing everything is good instead of messing with everything while your snake is in there.

Give him/her a week to settle in. Then offer food as far as handling if you wait 4-5 feeds you could be waiting awhile to get a handling session in. They're picky sometimes.

My process is wait a week feed then 48 hours later for about a month I'll handle every other day 5-10 minutes more if they tolerate it and aren't acting stressed.

My standard procedure is set up tank at least 24 hours before, let temps and humidity stable out. When snake gets to me i check it out completely then leave it in new home no food, no handling for one week, then i feed, if it eats i'll give it another week and feeding to be sure, then 48 hours after 2nd feeding i'll start 5 to 10 min. handling sessions every other day. As for switching to FT. I did it with a new girl, and she was doing well, just make sure the rat pup is warmed to 100 degrees and offer it, if she won't take it just leave it in over night and cover the cage, you might have to wait her out. Some switch easily, some are harder to switch, and some will never switch. Just be patient, and watch her weight. good luck, and don't foget to post pics, when you get some.

I have had success for some time with a method close to this. I will attempt feeding as soon as they hit the tub with exactly what the breeder was feeding. They will take it about 50% of the time and settle in very quickly with a full belly. If they do not take the food I do not mess with them at all for a full week and then try again. Keep in mind that your temps and everything else must be right from the start. The animal needs to be able to properly digest its food. As far as handling, once I have the animal eating, I handle normally.
