Female Showing Dominance Over Small Male, Problem?
Basically I have a young male about 750 grams that I was hoping to breed to a female that is about 1600 grams. Both are virgins. I have tried a few times to pair them and have never seen anything close to a lock. When I introduce him to her tub, the female evacuates as you'd expect. I have never seen any tail wagging but I haven't really been watching. (I'm not a Voyeur.) However, when I have looked in on them they are not only not locked, but she always seems to be on top of him. I mean he is for the most part covered.
My questions is, should I assume this is a dead end this season and stop attempting this pairing so I don't stress the little guy out, or is it a matter of if at first you don't succeed........?
I just don't know how fragile the little guy's ego is and I don't want him scarred for life. And on her side, I want to respect her right to, No means No. :)

I think that is all part of the courting process. Her laying on top of him, the moving to a different side of the enclosure. Remember what you don't see is him stimulating her with his spurs and the tactile part of the courtship. I would just stick to my time frame of pairing and separating. Also the separation of the pair plays a role in the reception and acceptance on the females part. Definitely not a dead issue, you have to continue to introduce , separate and then reintroduce.

Maybe put some Barry White on and give them some alone time! 😳😳😳

Thanks for the response. I will just stick to the plan then and see if they warm up to one another along the way.

Now is it over for her this season, I don't think so.
Is the male breeding for the first time this year? If so he might still need to figure things out with that specific female some female are not as receptive as others and inexperienced males sometimes need time.
Yes, this is his first time ever so maybe it's just a matter of them getting acquainted. I just don't want to miss her window but I'm willing to keep trying.

So let me see if I have this right? Shed from other male? Check. Sperm plugs from another male? Check. Barry White album? Man I just knew I was forgetting something. I guess a little Kenny G wouldn't quite do it now, would it?

don't forget mood lighting and the drinks and the Jacuzzi tub in the shape of a heart.

Haha this actually worked for me. I paired my 1.0 Mojave to 0.1 Lesser for two days and did not see a lock. I waited a week before pairing these two up again and my GF was so sure this inexperienced Mojave boy would not get it done. I jokingly dimmed the lights and played some Barry white, about five min later the mood must have been right because the boy locked. HAHA I could not stop laughing and sadly now out of superstition this week I will repeat the process.
