No Probe on my Acurite, help!
Hey all,
I just purchased an AcuRite from Amazon, but it didn't come with a probe. It just measures the air and humidity temp without a probe. Where shall I put this in my pythons tub? Can I still use this AcuRite?

That's not correct at all. The most relevant temperature is the ambient temp.

I'm keeping my ball in a tub setup, so the acurite will be pretty much on the ground measuring the ambient temp right above the substrate. Unfortunately I can't return it since I opened it and took off the back clip. I'm just pissed I wasted $15! I've done that with other small items needed for my snake as well. So many options for everything, it can be hard to choose. Good thing my little guy has another 2 weeks till he gets here. Leaves me more time to prepare and get tips from the experts :)

Well this is not actually true. If you use a UTH for heat you wanna know the temp coming from the heat source not the ambiant temp or else you could burn your snake. If the ambiant temp in the tank is 90 the UTH could easily but above 120 or 130.
If you are heating from an outside source ( some people heat a whole room, instead of individual tanks, with space heaters) then measuring the ambient temp is fine.

Well if you have a UTH, it should be controlled by a thermostat so it doesn't get to 130. Additionally, 90 is too hot for an ambient temps. They should be between 78-84F.
What I was referring to is even if you do have a UTH, knowing what your ambient temps are more important because your snake can still get an RI if ambient temperatures are low even though belly heat is at the right temp.

Sorry I just misunderstood what you said before. I didn't realize that you were assuming the basking/uth temp was accurate, so that would make knowing the ambient temp important. From what you said I thought you ment the ambient temp was most important and weren't even considering the possible UTH temp.
Tanks should have a proper temp gradient .
