baby boy with big momma pied

Just for fun, I figured I'd put baby boy (1st year poss breeder) het pied with big momma Pied.


Yes, bad to breed to a lower male, but hey, it's what I can afford.

I just want them to like each other and for her not to eat him.

They aren't locked, but aren't comfortably snuggling. The snuggle with no breeding thing seems as bad as trying to eat each other imo. Neither one leads to a furthering of the genes.

How many grams is the male? Is he producing sperm plugs yet? I've heard of males being bred pretty young, but if they have immature hemipenes or aren't producing sperm plugs then it doesn't really matter. Either way, if they aren't breeding I wouldn't feel comfortable putting a smaller male in with a much bigger girl. You say it's all you can afford, so just imagine the cost of having to replace the male.

Personally I dont see anything wrong with it. With smaller males you need to make sure they keep eating and arent getting wiped out, but thats about it. Plus with the little guys its not uncommon at all for them to take a few visits to their girlfriends before they figure it out.

They aren't breeding yet, but for them to breed they need to be introduced. First introductions regardless of the male size may lead to this type of situation where nothing happens.

As for size difference I have paired 600 grams males with 3000+, even a 4000 grams females without any issues.

Do you recommend not to put a male and a female with a significant size difference together for breeding because of your own experience or something you read, I would love to know since I never heard of such situation going wrong.

I have never had an issue when pairing smaller males to larger females. Hell most my males stay in the 800gram range compared to the 2k+gram females they hit up.

All my males are much smaller than my females. I have never had a problem with it. I think the smaller males make better breeders when they are in the 700 gram range.

Just be careful. I met a breeder that said he accidentally had one of his smaller males get smothered by the larger female. He picked up the female and the male was underneath. They were both sitting in the spot of heat and he suspects that the male was just not big enough to pull himself out from underneath the female. I don't know if that is exactly how the male died, but it was his story (something to think about). :snake:

You have to remember that "common sense" eludes many people! I would like to know how a person tells "immature" from "mature" hemipenes.

Concerning the "size" issue. My 500g albino enchi male is done breeding a 3800+ albino female,and she's approaching post ovu shed.;)

I only said I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with it. I know that plenty of people pair snakes of a significant difference together, but it's not something I would do until I feel I have a good amount of experience. Like, I have a 200g male who probably would have gotten the job done with my 2000g female, but I just felt more comfortable using my 800g male instead. I have that new calico pastel male that I'm just itching to get some eggs out of but I still think I'd like him to be a bit bigger still, just for my own peace of mind. I'm sure I'll get to the point where I don't mind the size difference so much, but I'm not quite there yet.
