Exotic Piebald morphs, how to breed.
I've seen the Axanthic, pastel and other exotic piebald morph variations and I am curious as to how go about breeding for them. I tried the genetic wizard but was unable calculate for them. I'm hoping that someone here will help me out.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

You can right click to select multiple genes in the parents.

To make an axanthic pied then both the parents need to be at least het for both piebald and axanthic.

I'm by no means a professional, but I'm just starting my axanthic pied project and this is how I planned it out.

I have a visual pied male who I'm breeding to a visual axanthic female. This should give me all babies that are 100% het for both. I'll raise those up and breed to each other. And hopefully hit the odds.

I know there's probably much easier ways to accomplish it. That's just my personal plan.

    Hope it helps! :)

It all depends on the money you're willing to put into it.

I think misskat's plan is probably the cheapest without taking an obscenely long time to produce Axanthic Pieds.

Though... If you could find the double het females of the type you're looking for and could then find a visual double male you would be producing twice as many visual double animals in the first season rather than the second. This way the male will be the cheapest and females will be cheaper than buying visuals... the trick will be finding all these animals.

But like I said, it depends on how much money you are going to drop.

As a side note, something I am looking at while I plan to start my Clown project... So the visuals are expensive enough already but I've found that het or even double het animals can go for 100 or sometimes 50 bucks more if it has a gene that is "common" for example a double het axanth pied is 400 (no idea just made a number up) but a pastel double het axanth pied is 450. It seems to me like this extra 50 is well worth it if you can hit the odds on the gene being incorporated in the final result. Granted there isn't a huge chance but if you have a different "common" gene in each female and you plan on breeding for a couple years then you never know what could happen.

Here's an article that Justin Kobylka wrote earlier this year on his recommendations for a double recessive project. He used Lavender Albino and Pied (to make Dreamsicles). In your case, just substitute Axanthic for Albino and you'll have a ton of pathways you can start on for your Axanthic Piebald project.

    Good luck to you!

Would a Super Pastel Pied be possible? Still learning a lot about the genetics so i'm not sure if anything cancels out but I would imagine that would be my perfect snake. a 70-85% Pied with the patches showing for Super Pastel.

I'd never be able to take my eyes off of it.

Not impossible at all, and no harder than a double recessive project. You would need Pied and Pastel on both parents.
For example, a pair of Pastel het Pied's could give you a super pastel pied - if you're very lucky. Haha
You could increase your chances if one parent was a super pastel (ie, super pastel het pied x pastel het pied), or if you were starting with a pastel visual pied.

What is the difference between "exotic" and "non - exotic" piebald morphs?
