Is it okay to make my young BP fast?
Hey! This post is mainly just t introduce myself as I'm a new member! I recently got my baby BP and i fed him the day after i got him (as it was due) and he ate it straight away! I then tried to feed him 6 days after as i wanted to change the feeding day to wednesday for practicality reasons. He didn't take the food whch didnt surprise me too much. Is it okay to make him wait another week? I'm sure it is but just checking. He is 2 months old TODAY!

    thanks guys,
btw his name is Salazar :)

Yes, it is fine to change his feeding day.

However, it's less normal for him to refuse a meal that young.
    1. Where did you get him from?
    2. Was he eating before he came to you?
    3. What were they feeding him?
    4. What have you tried feeding him?
    5. Can you describe his set-up? Everything from what you are keeping him in, to what's in there with him, to what temperature is helpful.

Lets get little Salazar eating like clockwork for ya!

He took it like a shot the first time! he is already on fuzzies so he may just not be hungry, he seemed interested but not enough to eat it. Remember i tried feeding less than a week after.

    1. A shop called Global Geckos, all members working there have eithera masters or PhD in zoology and the study of reptiles xD.
    2. He never missed a feed before i bought him so maybe messing up his clock made him not hungry.
    3. Like i said fuzzies
    4. Fuzzies XD
    5. 60x38x20cm vivarium, 3 hides, one at each end and in the middle, some platic plants, orchid bark substrate and a water bowl. Hot sde: 30-34 c Middle-27-29 cool:26 c

    Thanks for the quick reply!

When you say fuzzy, do you mean mouse or rat? Live, pre-killed, or frozen/thawed?

Many small and growing snakes are able to take a fuzzy rat no problem every 4 days or so, so it's likely less due to the time frame you've offered food and more due to his perceived stress of the move and his new environment. Security and temperatures are most critical, so ensure that both are in line for him (hides not too big, temperatures not too warm, etc). It sounds like you've got these in place, but it never hurts to double check. Here's a good thread with a few suggestions you may find helpful: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...With-Pictures!

Since he's already had a refusal, stretch the every 4 days recommendation out to a week between feedings until he becomes more consistent with you. I'd recommend offering a live fuzzy rat weekly for the next few weeks. If, after 3-4 weeks he hasn't eaten anything in your care, try changing it up to a live hopper mouse weekly and seeing how he does. Even the most finicky little babies tend to go after their hopper mouse candy.

Rat, frozen thawed, he did eat the day after he moved in. Everything is in place as it was sold to me by Global Geckos who are very qualified. Everything is in place as check it every time go into my room. He was fed every week before and that is what I was going to do anyway. I am not willing to feed live food for personal reasons. I'm very sure this is juts a one time thing!
Thanks for all your help, I will let you know if he feeds on Wednesday.
