Scale rot or not?

Is this the start to scale rot? I only picked her up today so it's nothing I've done... I've got her on a artificial grass and the humidity levels and temperatures are correct, previously in the shop she was kept on bark.. will this shed out or will I have to do something?

umm, artificial grass? you mean, the plastic stuff, like astroturf? thats unusual.

i dont know if its scale rot, obviously one scale got ripped off somehow, so it might be an injury and not scale rot.

Can you return her?
No turf-
Paper towel-
3cc per 1000cc F10 30 minutes 2 times a day or
Betadine diluted to tea color 30 minutes 2 times a day-
Scale rot or not it needs cleaned out-
Vet-

I don't think I can return her and wouldn't want too even if I could :-( Thank you, will probably take her to the vets soon as I'm a little worried about her!

It's like a false grass that you would use outside but a lot softer than astro. The scale hasn't been ripped off, the scale is the brown looking one.. That's what is making me think it's the start of scale rot as it's the actual scale that's gone funny

that false grass never comes up as a potential substrate, and i think the reason for that is that it fails to serve the purpose of a substrate.

a substrate needs to absorb, and should inhibit bacteria from building up. i have no idea how you could clean the fake grass, and how it could absorb pee.

people use aspen shavings or coconut fiber or unprinted newspaper, and for snakes that are sick or injured people switch to paper towels.


betadine is good stuff, its used on humans for cleaning/disinfecting wounds and for treating infected wounds and in surgery and to treat a variety of skin conditions. diluted betadine baths are good to treat wounds or scale rot, so whatever it is, diluted betadine baths should help. you can also put the betadine on a cotton swab and treat the affected area directly, like you would use it when a person has an open injury or a burn.

It is a good substrate, here in the UK it is a commonly used one, it does absorb and it's simple to clean, you just take it out and wash it down. The grass mat I am using is perfectly fine as I have my other python on it and so do many others that I know, as I said in the original post - I only got her home yesterday and the problem is not down to me, just looking for a way to clear it up. Thank you I will try using betadine

^ I can assure you it's not a "good" substrate. Pics of your enclosure? I'm curious as to what this substrate looks like. Is it plastic?

Well its seemed to have been a good substrate for my other python and many others that I know... It's plastic grass with an absorbent layer under it. It's perfectly safe

I bet thats a pain to clean. You will have to take it out, wash it, sterilize it then put it back in right? Looks nice, but I wouldnt actually use it for any of mine.
