Leaving Snakes Alone For A Few Days?

Hey guys, I am a college student at WVU and Thanksgiving Break starts on the 25th. I have a BP and a boa both currently it 30" long tanks. I really rather not have to haul both tanks home and for the snakes to go through a 3 hour drive with no heat just to be home for a few days. So my question is can I leave them alone for 5 or 6 nights? I know its not ideal but I would have a thermostat to keep the temps right. Does anyone have advice for traveling that makes it okay? Any advice appreciated

I think you will be advised not to but I was thinking about leaving my BP's at home when I go back for christmas. My family luckily only live 20 minutes away and I was planning on leaving on the afternoon of the 24th December and returning at the latest on the 27th. I didn't want to uproot them for only a few days...

Personally I wouldn't want to leave mine alone for more than a weekend, but I am a beginner, so you might want a more experienced opinion.

Is there someone who can check on them? Doesn't have to be a snake lover, just someone you trust who can go to your place every other day to make sure temps are ok and refill water dishes (maybe with a watering can if they are squeamish) and give you a call if something is off.

The problem is its thanksgiving break so 99.99% of the people here will be leaving for the whole week I cant think of anyone at all that will still be here

IF you are comfortable with it, you could put out a request here on the boards, "Looking for someone in _____ area of WV to check on snakes", but that's a judgement call. The breeder I purchased our bp from boards snakes, so that might be an option for you, but again, but there's the risk of catching something from someone else's animals.

Hoping someone else more experienced weighs in, since I'm all out of ideas. Good luck!

I have left my BP alone for a week by herself before. She is just over a year old. I made sure to give her clean water, and spot clean any messes before I left. I also fed a couple nights prior to leaving so I knew she had a full belly and would most likely spend the majority of the time in her warm hide digesting. I also have a thermostat to take care of temps. It can be done, one of the many bonuses of keeping reptiles. However, it is completely up to you whether you feel comfortable leaving them alone or not.

I have left my entire collection alone for a week once...came back, no problems. Instead of hauling tanks just grab some tubs, newspaper, undertank heater, and just leave the tanks at home. I left my collection at my house, I would be very wary about leaving them alone in a dorm/apartment.

well I can lock my bedroom door that they are in?

If you're not comfortable in leaving your snakes by themselves for a few days, check your local reptile store if they board snakes. I know my reptile shop down the street does that for about 5 bucks a day. With that said, I know the owner pretty well so I trust to leave my snakes there.

Personally, I've left mine while I was out of town for a couple of days and they were fine. However it wasn't a whole week. It's pretty much a judgment call at this point.

I would think that taking them with you would be more stressful for them.
