herroo, so atm i have only one ball, but i plan on getting another in october possibly 2 :D and i my question was if i buy a rack system (4 tubs iris sweater box, from reptile basics) that comes with back heat already built in can i use inly one thermostat to make sure all are the same temps ? or do i need more than one? i was planning on getting the vivarium electronics ve-100.

If this rack is going to come with heat then you should be able to use your VE-100 just fine. As long as the heating element is one solid piece or several that are wired together. You'll plug your heat into the t-stat and place the probe on the heating element of one of the shelves near the middle of the rack. I recommend building the rack yourself. Also back heat(I've heard) isn't really effective in a cool room. Its best used in a 78+ degree reptile room because of its inability to heat the air well on the cool side of the tub. Belly heat is the way to go. Hope this helps you. :)

Yea, I prefer belly heat because back heat vs belly heat there is a larger air gap. One thermostat will be fine for that rack system as well.

Yes yes, oh yes, this will work and then I want to see pictures of it and the new addition(s)!!!

Also, just my 0.02, but belly heat is the way to go, reptile room or not!!! I could see other snake species that could benefit from it though, so I am not saying its completely useless!!!

Oh, also, I would also use back heat for a baby rack as well, just doesn't chance killing you little babies like belly heat would!

How would belly heat possibly kill the baby's if the heat tape is hooked up to a thermostat and set to the appropriate temp?

The fact they are in smaller tubs and if you get a thermostat malfunction the bigger tubs allow the adults to simply move to the front of the tub.

Get a quality thermostat with a failsafe, don't see this being an issue. Not saying I prefer back heat or belly heat for hatchlings as I don't breed but I don't see a snake in a bigger tub moving because of a temp spike, if this were the case we wouldn't see post of snakes getting burnt. I think regardless of the location of your heat tape, you just need to have a quality thermostat.
