Suggestions for blacking out a tank and insulating it

I need to black out 3 sides of my tank. I figure along with blacking it out I will insulate the sides.

Any suggestions of materials to use?

I was thinking of getting insulation from Home Depot but it's pink, would a BP notice a bright color and would they be bothered by it?

Your snake doesn't care at all what color it is. It could be rainbows and ponies and I don't think they would even notice.

I like to insulate my tanks with something a little more low-profile. I usually use a couple layers of foam core board and it works fairly well. The pink insulation is usually pretty thick, and in my opinion...kinda ugly. I use white foam core and white chip board and it looks nice and does the job.

I have never insulated a glass tank before but I have heard of people using a product called reflectix.

I'm gonna second on the foamcore. I need to do an insulation as well, the sides of his tank are already blacked out by a jungle background but he could use the extra environmental protection.

It's thin, flexible, easy to work with and does a pretty good job of insulating. It's not bulky like foam can be.

Ya, black foam board from Walmart. Cut it tight and press to fit, no tape or glue needed. That way it also pops off easily for viewing with just a pull of the fingers.

People use the pink one as a base for custom vivarium backgrounds. If you want to get fancy, carve it into rock shapes, paint over it (takes about 3 coats), then use acrylic paints thinned with water for adding depth and texture. Normally attached to the walls with black aquarium grade silicon (MUST be aquarium grade!) which will also give you the blackout that you're looking for.

I thought about using foam to make backgrounds, but never insulation too! :O
I might have to move Dovah into his old enclosure temporally to try this out on his new one!
I currently have black paper on the sides and back, and my mom hates it! Maybe this will make her happier!
