Piebald question

So I have a pinstripe male who 3/4 years down the line I am considering breeding. Now I am really interested in piebalds. Would I only ever be able to get het pies from him when matched with a piebald female?

Yes. They would all be 100% het for Piebald
50% Normal het Pied
50% Pinstripe het Pied

Ah dang. That's a lot of waiting for piebald babies. :( Well thank you for the help!

You can pick up a pair of subadult/adult Het Piebalds for relatively cheap....you wait would be much shorter.

I am pretty sure that would make the wait longer. Pin x Pied would get you to your Pin Pied faster than having a pair of het pieds and waiting to produce a female pied to breed back to the Pin.

I think it depends on if he is looking to make Piebalds or Pin Pieds... If he is looking to make Piebalds, it'd be quicker to pick up a het pied male and grow him up, vs breeding his two and waiting for a hatch of het pieds and then growing one up and breeding back. But if he is trying to make Pin Pieds, then yes it'd be smarter, less expensive, and/or quicker to produce his own with what he has :)

Get your female Pied and get a sub adult female Het Pied. Breed your Pin to the Pied and then keep back a Pin Het Pied male, to breed to the Het Pied that will be an adult by this time. No inbreeding....you get your Pied Pin.

Yes you would, each egg would have 50% chance to yeld a Pinstripe Het Pied or a Het Pied

Keep a male Pin Het Pied breed it back to your female the following season and produce something like this ;)

That would take 2-3 years minimum, If you're lucky enough to hit the odds... twice...

I'd just pick up a Pin 100% Het Pied male and breed him to an adult/sub adult pickup 0.1 Pied when she was up to size this fall. You only need to hit the odds once with the 1.0 Pin 100% Het Pied vs. twice trying to make your own Hets then hit a Pin Pied the third year after your 1.0 Pin 100% Het Pied is big enough to breed (if you hit one).

Yes.... More expensive upfront, but a quicker return on your investment if you produce a year earlier- which basically negates the difference you paid upfront in the first place.

Say you paid $1000 more for the combo of a 1.0 Pin 100% Het Pied and 0.1 Pied over making your own Hets with two 0.1 Pied/Het Pieds- then say in the two years it would take you to produce in your original Het making effort, you could have produced 2 clutches. Your investment difference is recouped in the first year and you still have a 0.1 Pied which is worth well more than a 100% Het Pied.
