New Pick-up................YAY me LOL

Went to my local shop to get a couple fuzzy mice for feeding day tomorrow and what did I find??????????
Been thinking about one for a while and I was finding males every where but I wanted a female first.:D:D

Question is........... What happens IF I breed her to a normal haired rat? Do I need a hair-less male too?

Do you know if she is true hairless or double rex? I can't really tell from the pictures. A true hairless typically has trouble lactating properly and raising her litter, assuming she has no complications while giving birth. Casting complications aside, if she is a true hairless and you bred her to a normal coated male, you would have some babies that carry the hairless gene, and some that do not, all of which will come out looking normal.

A double rex female will have no problems with babies, but you will only get more double rexes/patchworks/mock-hairless babies if you breeder her to another rex. If you breed a double rex to a normal fur, you will end up with some babies with curly fur, and some with just a smooth coat.

Breeding hairless females is not good unless you have a female available to be foster mom.
Your female has a lump on her side, hairless rats are very susceptible to tumors and that looks like one, I wouldn't breed her if that's the case :(

Double Rex(Homozygous Rex) is similar to any other Homozygous breeding IE: Super pastel X Normal makes all pastels..

Double Rex to standard coat makes 100% rex

I did notice the tumor on her, and have seen it on almost every male around here too.
Either way, she is just too cute to pass up on with the wrinkly skin and the huge dumbo ears:blowkiss:

Please don't breed her knowing she has a tumor of some kind.
If you have the guts, you can poke the lump with a hollow needle, and see what comes out, because it could just be a cyst or an infection.

I just spent some time with her and looked her over better than I did yesterday. I am thinking more that it is a scar but I am not for sure. She has one on her belly too. They dont look like any tumor that I am familiar with so I am going to run her by my vet in a little bit because I have to take one of my dogs too. She said she would look at her for no charge so I will let you know in an hour or two:rat:
