My First Crestie!

I just acquired my first baby crested gecko yesterday. I've been expecting him for a while so i've definitely read and studied up on him before hand. The only question I have is, when dusting his crickets is it ok to use calcium with d3, or should I go with the calcium with out d3? Thanks.

According to the care sheet either the vitamin supplement or the calcium supplement need to contain d3, but not both.

Another option you could do would be to feed the crested gecko diet. That's what I feed mine and they seem to love it. The reptile store I got them from said they can live on just CGD, but they usually offer crickets as a treat occasionally. I think if you feed CGD with crickets as a treat every now and again (not the 1-3 times weekly the care sheet says) then you might not need to dust them with the calcium supplement.

I also rarely feed crickets, and only use it as a method to help females put on a bit of extra weight if needed, particularly because of breeding.

At the moment all of my females are at a great weight and I'm feeding CGD exclusively.

So far i've had repashy CGD available to him at all times. I don't think he's been eating it at all though. Hopefully once he settles in he will start to eat the repashy. The reason I ask about the calcium powder is because I have calcium w/ d3 on hand now. Im just curious if thats ok to give him with crickets.

Plenty of people use calcium with D3 when feeding crested geckos. I'm too wary of D3 personally, but it should be good to use, and certainly should be quite fine to use if you're not feeding crix every day/every other day.

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but how can I tell if he is eating the repashy? I've never actually witnessed him eating it. I would love to have him solely eat CGD. Whats your take on feeding baby food?

If youre not feeding bugs and hes pooping.... then he is eating :D.... baby food is a big no no ... theres no where near enough of what your crestie needs to survive in baby food .... A gecko won't starve itself so just keep going on the CGD ... I dont feed bugs often to mine they just have solely CGD ... and I usually change it out every third night .... unless its been warm and it drys out too much... mine tend to eat more as its not as moist

I exclusively feed Repashy CGD, and the Repashy actually contains calcium and vitamin D3, the geckos need the D3 to process the calcium. If you feed crickets, you need to dust them with calcium with D3, if you do not you might run the risk of metabolic bone disease, pretty much rickets in reptiles, their bones will grow soft and they will have breaks in their limbs and toes or tail...

I reccomend only feeding the Repashy CGD, it is the best on the market hands down, and will be the healthiest choice for your Crestie! You will probably not notice your gecko eating the CGD at first, but trust me, they will find and eat it. Just make sure you replace it on a regular basis so it does not dry out or become putrid. In the past I fed them crickets once and awhile but they have little nutritional value except for what the crickets are fed, admittedly my Cresties loved hunting them down though!

If you provide CGD and your gecko seems healthy, he's eating it.

And no baby food!!
