Power Strikes?

So lately I noticed my bps are wanting food more often. I open the tub and they fly out tongue flickin. I offer them the rat pups and they strike them so hard the rat sometimes burst spray me and everything with insides. Any opinions on why they hitting so hard?

I don't know how big your snakes are but in my previous experience with boas that was always a sign to move on to bigger prey. If that's happening often you might want to consider the next size prey item.

You might want to look at how you are defrosting the rat pups though - they shouldn't burst.

Agree with both, if the f/t are bursting you are leaving them to thaw too long or you bought a bad batch of f/t pups.

Actually i have found this to be the complete opposite. That when you thaw them to fast they burst. Take a frozen rodent. Put it in hot water. It will thaw fast but will be really "mushy" so to say. And will easily bust open. Where if u slowly defrost for a longer period of time its more likely not to.

It's not a clear cut issue sadly.

If you heat them too much they "cook" which weakens the tissue and if you have some that got defrosted before or if you leave them out too long they decompose which also weakens the tissue.

There is a definate golden zone that defrosts without cooking and before they rot enough to split.

There is, however, not much you can do if the supplier you got them from had already allowed them to partially defrost and begin to decompose.

ty all I kinda used a conbination for defrosting warm water then blow dry for warmt but i willl try bigger prey hopefully that will keep my clothes clean lol

I'm not sure I'd change anything except the f/t exploding :P

I love my snakes having that kind of feeding response, I have a few that I have to stand back while I open their tubs.

Heres what i do. Take some water i wouldnt say luke warm. More on the colder side to your hands. Put them in. I wait normally a hour or 2. They should feel nice and good. Then i dump water out and refill with some hot water a bit hotter than im trying to warm the rats to. Sit them in. Wait a few mins. Then feed the smallest items off first as the bigger ones take longer to warm
