    Buying a BP
    Hey everyone!

I found a very sweet store in Sweden where they sell a variety of reptiles and amphibians, also a few insects, and in this store i found a snake i directly fell in love with, the owner also said it would be a good buy.

Its a normal BP, though its young ( i estimated it to be nearly a year) and slightly darker than it perhaps is usually(?). Looked healthy.

Now, time for my question. If youve been in the same situation as me, would you buy it if you had more than enough money to care for it ( and plenty of interest)?

And, how would you ever overtalk your parents....?(my biggest problem)

What is the problem with the parents?

Well, im not sure actually. Theyre not the type to be scared of them in particular,i was thinking maybe its the food, but i can go buy it every time so it wont have to be stored.

And i do have the room, so i guess theyre reluctant just because it is a snake?

i do have a small pet turtle too :'D

Well, How old are you? I've had Kenyan sand boa since I was 10 years old. Tell your parents how docile, low maintenance, lovely pets they make. Make sure to mention that they stay very small relative to other python species like burms or retics. Most parents/muggles hear "python" and think "30 foot goat-eating monster from the zoo." They only need an appropriately sized plastic tub, water bowl, hide, thermometer, thermostat, heating pad, and some newspaper for substrate. I just got a whole setup at NARBC (and walmart) including my 1700g female for $140. Compared to a dog, cat, or anything but a fish, ball pythons are very little work or hassle.

I am 19, and i have not had any experience with snakes, but i do have a turtle since 11 years back. i plan to move out in about half a year, but i think its very much better if i buy one now when everythings calm and stable.

Ill try talking about them more without asking then o.o thanks for the tip that led to the idea lol.

I just turned 21 this week, and I only recently moved out when I went to college. I know where you are right now. Just make sure to mention that you will take the snake WITH you when you do move out. I don't know how it is in Sweden, but in the U.S. snakes are not allowed in the dorms. I would think about your living arrangements next year.

I know it seems like a long way off, but ball pythons live for 20+ years. If you go ahead and get him now, you will be forced to either get an apartment (I'm sure it is pretty expensive in Sweden) or get rid of the snake.

Again, don't know how it is in Sweden, or your situation, but I'd rather say it than not. I had to wait until I moved out of the dorms this year to get my ball pythons.

We get to keep them in dorms as long as theyre not poisonous or furry, due to allergies which i also have, as far as i know. Dorms are nearly as expensive as an apartment here due to the goverment not spending money for student houses. And snakes are rather unusual pets here even though you see them every now and then.

And yes, apartments are very ( incredibly )expensive, but ive made sure to save up and am looking for some part time work :'> though its very true i should wait with the snake until i get work for sure!

It might be rebellious of me to want one now, but id like to keep it for those 20+ years and its better now than to start much later....is it youth speaking or is it genuine interest?

Anyhow, thanks for the tips. Ill make sure to try again tomorrow. Today didnt go well.....the burmese python story went off the list xD

That is great they let you keep reptiles in your dorms! Sounds like a good school to me! Still, just keep working on them. Maybe show them cute pictures of baby ball pythons? Who could resist their faces! (It seems my girlfriend can!) Worst case scenario, just buy it when you move into your dorm. My dad still has no idea that I have 6 ball pythons :D

hmm.....i could draw some........that was actually a great idea!

XD oh lol.....well, my family is so "incredible", they know all about me so i wouldnt be able to hide if i got a few reptiles. I dont even have doors to my room....

A great thanks for the tip.

Yeah I'm totally jealous they let snakes into dorms! You can't have ANYTHING in the dorms in my area, maybe any dorm in the US. You should talk with your parents about the snake idea and see what they say!
