Caramel Albino Kinking and breeding, any thoughts?
Just wondering what peoples thoughts are with the caramel kinking problem. I personally believe that kinked animals should not be breed and I know it is a genetic issue with this morph. my question is can the kinking be prevented with lower incubation temps? Also do the unborn hatchlings grow faster in the egg and hatch sooner at higher temps, (say 90 degrees or so)? If so, could it be that maybe kinked caramels are caused by rapid growth in the egg and if so could slowing down that growth by using a lower incubation temp, (say 87 degrees or so) prevent the kinking issue?

i can't remember who or exact details but someone claimed to have cured the kinking problem by lower the incubation temps, but it was like 85 degree or lower. but like most claims, there was no follow up or anything, no numbers to compare data and yea.

i tired searching and couldn't find it but i remember reading it on the forum like a year ago. but i still wouldn't understand why every other ball python grows up fine, while caramels would need different temps.

I was just thinking that maybe something in their genes might cause them to grow a little out of control and by slowing down growth it might curb the effects of kinking.

Caramels are an awesome mutation. They live long healthy lives and breed like any other ball. I have yet to see a Female Caramel sitting on a viable clutch... however het females produce like crazy! People make all sorts of claims... incubation temps, rat diet etc but the truth is: We haven't quite nailed down the kinking thing!

Ralph Davis has some kinked males... check the breeding records... i think he got some of them to breed!
