I'm a Newbee with a breeding question

So I have a question for you guys, I've never bred pythons before and I didn't even see them in lock. They must have done it on the sly. :) I put my normal female with a spider male. So my question is, how soon will it be before she shows signs of being gravid?

There isn't really a fixed timescale as it depends where the female is in the process.

And they do not always lock every time so it isn't a one shot deal. In fact it usually is a process that you go through for a couple of months. :)

And remember to have your plans in place for incubating, housing and feeding the offspring early on in case the female moves the timescale up.

There is no greater feeling of panic then unexpected eggs when you have the incubator sitting in pieces in the corner of the room. :rolleyes:

Thank you and this is true :rolleyes:, I just found out, she's in ovulation :banana:, much to my surprise learning something new everyday. I love this forum, you guys are awesome, I read everyday I love the knowledge you guys have and are willing to give your advice and know how. and yes panic is something I don't want :(. She is with her spider(man) lol. Thank you for the info. Now to figure out what would be the best incubator, next task, hehe

Ovulation only lasts for a few hours. If she's looked like she has for a more extended period of time, then chances are she's building if anything. If you've only put them together once, then unless she was already growing her follicles, then most likely you're just seeing things, which is very easy to do when you're excited about a first clutch

We've put them together I'd say 4x's now haven't seen them locked up. Went to feed her and noticed her all curled up which she's never in that sort of position, moved her around and noticed this rather noticeable bulgy shape to her body not significant but it's there. So in went the male again with her, several people have told me maybe she was ovulating, maybe possibly so in went the male :D, I've been reading up, and I also posted this too. Hoping for more insight. Thank you for your insight, much appreciated :gj:

If she is truly ovulating no need to put the male in anymore...His job is done!

Isn't their lock up time rather long? I mean shouldn't there have been some time where I would have seen them locked up? Doesn't it take them time? She has a bulge in her that looks like she swallowed a soda can. And it ain't a rat.
