To cut or not to cut the egg

Who cuts their bp's eggs to assist with pipping? I've noticed posts that people do, others prefer not to do so. Share your insights and experiences, I'm all ears. :snake:

I have my first clutch this year, and I will be cutting once the first one pips. If it doesn't hurt them I don't see the harm in it. It's purely to "save" the ones who don't have the egg tooth. Granted some people say they deserve to die if they don't have an egg tooth, but I'm not on that bandwagon. Some people like to cut before any pip, but that's just impatience :colbert: :D

I do the same with the poultry eggs I incubate. It's purely so they can breathe, not so I can dump them out early-that would kill them.

For what it is worth, I saw this post earlier today and was happy reading it. I still wanted to post this poll so I could see the numbers of those who share - and hopefully see who is doing what. The poll is anonymous though. So thanks in advance for anyone who shares their thoughts. :)

I cut eggs once in a while, they really don't need it, but I just get too impatient. I used to open my Christmas presents early too.

I bet you did! :rofl: I suppose it is impatience. The way I see it, if you made it to the day the first one pips that's pretty good right?! :rofl:

We cut at day 53 - that's more than enough time to wait to see what you got for Herpmas :rolleyes:

That said, on our last clutch, I opened the box on day 53 to find three sets of eyes staring at me, so only cut the couple that were still intact.

I do the same thing :) Haven't had any python eggs yet, but once the chick or duck or whatever it is pips, I make the hole bigger so they can breath, and it's definitely helped.
I'll probably do the same with BP eggs. Probably not a big gaping whole, but a flap, at least.

You know I have been badly wanting to ask why some people choose to cut?

I have always been curious but I don't want to cause any offense. I never bred before so I am clueless just curious.

I tend to cut between day 52 and 55.

I usually just let them pip on their own the only time I cut is whe I preceive there to poss be some kind of problem. For the most part though I just let them come out on their own.

I have learned the ways of patient's, it took a real long time but I did it...
