ugh so aggravated (rant)
im sick of uneducated people hating reptiles for ABSOLUTELY no reason. i was talking to people at work about my ball and of course everyones baffled that i would have a snake.
a few people were like if i ever see a snake around my house i hunt it down and kill it, chop its head off with a shovel, this and that..blah blah. i dont see how one could have hatred for such gorgeous, fascinating creatures?!?!?!!?
and this topped it all, one server at my job said she hates snakes cuz they be evil erry time u see snakeses they duuin sum'in evil, u needa read u bible boy.
i swear to god i wanted to kill her. tellin me to read my bible!!! gah
i could get into the religious part of this but idk if that would be too much..heh

I know! I feel the exact same way! But this is just based off of all the movies like "Anaconda", or where snakes are seen as murderous machines that all they want to do is kill and eat people... :( Which every knowledgable person knows is not true! My ball python (my Avatar) and I get a lot of criticism... Everyone makes little rritating comments about how he is going to get huge and eat me, and bite and kill me.
Most of the opinions are based off of over-inflated movies, and ignorant people who do not do their research, just believe what they see. They have never taken the time to see if snakes, arachnids, ad all of the other "bad reputation" animals are really what everyone makes them out to be... And both you and I know that it is no true. And plus, there are several religions where snakes are gods and goddesses... worshipped greatly, and extremely well respected.

Nice come back, ha ha. If she does call the cops, they can't do any thing. All it would be is "He said, she said" and it would be over.
I would have said some thing along the lines of the actual value. For example, if he threatened to kill a snake of mine that was worth $800, I would have told him I'd give him $800 worth of damage by pouring bleach in his car's gas tank. I guess we'd see how far he'd be driving, ha ha.

If my boa escaped and he killed it nothing would happen to him probably. But if his cat escapes and i killed it i would be in deep trouble why is that?

Because people think snakes are horrible creatures... And would rather give a cat justice than a snake. Pretty sad world when lives are valued more important than others based on personal feelings, huh?

Re: ugh so aggravated (rant)
I don't know where to even begin with this thread.
I think for the most part we all here feel that we are surrounded by ignorance beyond belief at one point or another by the actions and words that come out of others mouths concerning our interest. The wife and I have two different approaches towards people when it comes to attitudes towards snakes.
When we run across negative contact with people when we physically have one of 'the boys' in our posession outside the wife's response is to go on the attack - she takes offense to it and takes it personally that a person feels it necessary to voice their disapproval. She'll always snap back with something sarcastic like "It's a friggin' rattlesnake!" or "Oh yeah, well I hate dogs!" (if the person happens to have a dog with them). With me, I find it as a target of opportunity to educate and inform.
Grant you, our love for these creatures is hardly the rule out there amongst the general populous and I understand your frustration but try to channel that anger into a positive experience. I have run across people I'd love to just throw a big fat P/K rat in their face and smear the scent all over it then heave our Colombian boa Mr. Biggs right at their friggin' nose and have him lock onto their idiotic, stupid head with over 200 backward curving teeth all the while throwing his huge coils around their neck while the person dropped to the ground futilely trying to unwrap him from their ever reddening face while he choked off the air supply to that obviously empty skull which is supposed to contain a brain...but I digress.
I mentioned in another thread that we do a 'Critter Show' at one of the preschools here and we get the "...my Dad whacked at it with a shovel while we threw rocks at it" ALL the time. There has not been one time when we didn't hear something along those lines. And the adults are no better. It just gets passed from generation to generation. I'm not saying that that's okay, that's just the way it is but if we can get the word out there how these magnificent really are and dispell the rumors and myths we might be able to change just one mind at a time.

In my opinion, the cat would get more justice because we, as humans, are an extremely emotionally driven species. We can "relate" to the cat because it can tilt its head in a cute way, or wag its tag, or blink. Snakes? Nah. They don't show emotion, so us humans just go, "Hey, let's care about the cute one."
Snakes are very unjustified. They need people like us who care and know the truth to speak out for them.

Win.
But yes, that was very uplifting to read. I'm glad you take part in making a difference. I applaud you. :gj:

You have a point there. But i think killing any1's pet is wrong unless its needed. Now even tho its not common but if your being attacked by a dog and its mauling you... I would kill it. Sorry but my life would come before it. If my life is not in danger i feel there is no need to kill it. Same for snakes. If its not trying to constrict you theres no need to kill it just call aimal control (or if u know its ur neighbors say hey dude ur snake is out here!)
