Breeding albinos

I'm thinking I'm going to get into breeding some albinos soon, but I read somewhere (forgot where) that people have had issues with albino females slugging out, or at least more often than with other morphs. Anyone come across such issues, or disinterest in breeding in males?

Sounds a bit like the usual rubbish..albinos dont eat, pieds are slow breeders

..my albinos eat great & both my pieds are breeding well..wouldnt worry about the stories. good luck with your plans :)

Agreed.. My albino is one of my best eaters and both my pied and Het pied are great eaters and breeders.. and things like spider are great eaters..I got one spider combo that will take your face off and two spiders that are picky ass hell.. each animal is different.

My Albino was my best eater i had and he was growing the quickest! Don't believe a lot of the stories you hear cause everyone has different situations and just because a few people say something about a morph thousands of people own, doesn't mean its true.

My binos and Pieds, both het and visual are both giving me grief over food and breeding currently.

Another question.. What I'm planning to do I think is to buy 2 female hets this year, and maybe a high contrast male next year. How does the genetics of the high contrast albino work? Do I need to pick up 2 het females that come from a high contrast line in order to ensure high contrast offspring? What would happen if a high contrast male was crossed with females that were het for just regular or faded albinism?

High contrast is a line bred trait, so you would get more high contrast if both sire and dam were from high contrast lines, but you could still produce some high contrast if just one parent was high contrast. High contrast babies can even come from two normal looking albinos. The first albino that someone labeled "high contrast" had to come from somewhere.

I would get albinos that appeal to you. The high contrast can be a nice trait but I also find that term used very loosely and sometimes just as a marketing tool to charge more. Also most look high contrast a babies but become normal albinos as they grow. Personally I dont label my albinos(even though one of my hets is supposed to be a high contrast line) I just tell people this is what they look like, you decide. But thats just me.

If you plan to make Albino combos, it would make more sense to get a female visual so you can breed back to her the next year, with a male het combo.

Yeah I see what you're saying, but ultimately what I want to do is breed for albino pinstripes, and I already have the female pin. So I'll breed the het albino pins from her back to the albino male, and then have the other 2 regular het albino females to go with that. If het albino pinstripes weren't so damn expensive, I'd get a male and then a female albino... Good thing I'm patient huh? :)
