Dragon eatin sand?

I have play sand in the 55gal tank with Hanley, to give it that home feelin... But he will lick the sand is this bad? ( Am I goin to have to take it all out? please no:( ) thank you in advance.

Maybe someone will correct me, but when had beardies I used slate tiles to line the bottom of his enclosure. I would never use sand because of the risk of impaction. Slate is cheap, reusable, and easy to clean. It's nothing to pop in the dishwasher to sanitize without detergent. The tile also helps keep their toenails worn down. I would buy enough tile to line the enclosure twice. That way you can always have a fresh batch ready on cleaning day.
I've even used newspaper before. Cheaper than tile and just throw it away when it gets dirty. Just my :2cent:
Oh, when I got my 1st baby beady, I did like everyone else. IO listened to the salesperson and bought a 40 gal breeder tank and about $60 worth of sand. After reading some good caresheets, I threw out the sand the next day and made a trip to Lowe's to get some tile.
I really do miss my beardies. :(

Definitely remove the sand. It can cause impaction. The other poster suggested tiles, I agree. It's alot easier to clean and keeps the nails wore down. The sand may look "homey", but it is dangerous to your beardie!! Besides, beardies don't usually live in sandy areas in the wild anyway.

i used to use play sand and never had a problem only reason i stoped was cause 1 the smell and the dust . My wife and i kept all of our beardies in play sand all 25 of them never had one case of impaction and we used it for over 2 years. Also baby beardies should never be kept in sand or play sand paper towels or news paper would be best

Well how old is the beardie? depending on the size of the beardie and the temps you have the enclosure at it is perfectly fine.

as long as the temps are 110-115 in the basking spot then its perfectly fine but you have to be sure to keep them well hydrated

Hanley is about a year old or so, and around 7-8 in snout to vent. His basking temp is in that range, and gets veggies every day and misted too.. Thanks in advance

He should be alright on washed sifted playsand. but not the sand from the petstore. just be sure to keep him hydrated with those temps

i had sand but recently switched to paper towels again because i found it easier to clean :)

This is the way I have kept mine for the past 15 years and haven't had any problems. $4 for 50lbs of play sand, you can't beat it. The dust is definitely the worst part of it though.
