snake ID (pic)

This snake was found on a ship at a chemical plant a few miles south of New Orleans and I'm not sure what it is.

I'm not an expert but based on its size and geographic location I would say its an Indigo snake. Either an eastern or texas indigo. Thats my guess and im stickin too it. Now someone back me up. lol

eeeh... doesn't look black enough to me to be an indigo. Plus they're pretty darn rare around that area, I spent years herping in those parts.

It's kind of a crappy pic for ID purposes, I don't know many LA snakes by their belly color.

If I had to guess, I'd put it in the nerodia genus.

Also this shouldn't be in giant pythons.. It is neither a python nor a giant.

Ya I understand it wasnt the best pic. I didnt take the picture and I wasnt there. It was emailed to me and was curious. thanks for the help.


And it appears to be longer than 10 foot? how is that not a giant?

Look closely. The guy in the picture is standing many feet behind the snake.. Classic skewed perspective causing the image to seem as if the snake is big. In reality, the snake is on a pole very close to the camera.

If it is longer than 5 or 6 ft I'd be surprised.

p.s. you can tell the guy is so far back because he is out of focus while the snake is in focus.

its bigger than 5-6 ft easy, look at the guys foot on on the grate. his foot is on a slight angle and covers 3 of the rows, if he wears avg size 13 show that would make those 3 rows to be about 12 inches wide. the rows under the snake are the same size and when you compare how big the snake is to the rows its over 6 its likely 10-12 ft if not a little more

Unfortuneatly i dont think this is an accurate way. There is no way that snake is 10-12 feet. I would stick with the 5 foot range. We could make a garter snake look like a giant.

And about the comment on the wrong place, even though you thought it might have been a giant, it is still not a python. So being in the giant python area would not be the right place.

Sorry but i cant ID it. I can only say its no where close to a giant. Its just a camera angle issue. Just like the 55 foot boa in China.
