Is it just me or does this sound stupid?

Once here and then I decide to expand my knowledge about snakes and especially ball pythons - who isn't? :)

And the internet isn't always a reliable source compared to a book about snakes. So I went for a look and found this line on a breeders web-site that just doesn't sound right in my ears.:

Because our snakes are raised by hand, and come from a lineage of hand raised parents, a bite from a Ball Python is indeed rare.

I couldn't stop thinking whether this is some really lame info in order to make people buy his snakes or whether this is actually true. I sincerely think that is a very cheesy speach because ball pythons are very reluctant to bite (never been tagged myself).

But I would like to get some other peoples thoughts and ideas about this one. :)

in my opinion a snakes parents dont determine its behavior. if a captive bred snake is sent into the wild at a young age it will want to bite u. if u keep it captive it will most likely not bite if treated, handled, and cared for properly. if these breeders handle the hatchlings and they dont see us as a threat then no they prolly wont bite. but ull prolly get those hatchlings every now n then that just want to bite

Yes, that sounds stupid. Because it is. The fact that the hatchlings are hand-raised may make them less inclined to bite because they are used to being handled, but the fact that their parents are hand-raised doesn't affect the offspring at all. Nature v nurture...'hand-raised' is not a genetic trait:)

At the end of the day, we are still dealing with snakes. If they feel threatened they will bite. It's just a tactic to sell their snakes to you. Whatever works...

It merely sounds like an oddly implimented statement to convey that the breeders snakes are from captive bred stock and not bitey.

I might add at the end of the day....EVERYTHING...has the ability to bite...even our most domesticated animals!!!!!

A handled bp usually will be more tolerant and less nippy. In general the ball python breed is not aggressive. But a blanket statement as such would be untrue from this individual.

I have captive raised fires that to this day I will still not let others handle. they are handled 2-3 times a week, 10 minutes are so a session and they still at times just dont like you messin with them....

It's as simple as this:

How the parent was brought up is irrelevant.

Baby snake A gets caring love and handling on a daily basis, most likely will not ever bite. It's still possible though.

Baby snake B gets no love and no handling at all. This snake is much more likely to bite. Though it may not.

It's entirely based upon how the individual snake was raised.

This little comparison can also be said of any animal, including humans :D
