Will males lock even when they're not producing sperm?
Does anyone know or have experience with males that are not producing sperm? Will they still lock with a female even if they aren't producing sperm and/or plugs?

I paired my Lesser male when he was exactly one year old (mid-October). I thought I had popped part of a plug from him prior to the pairing, but I haven't been able to pop any more since. Then again, I'm not all that great at popping just yet.... He locked shortly after being introduced to my female normal, and he stayed like that (as far as I could tell) for over 24 hours. I've introduced them twice since and haven't caught any locks. I know I could just be missing the locks, and I know it's still early in the season. I'm just paranoid. :)

And no, I haven't tried putting in another male's shed and/or plugs yet. I'm not that desperate just yet. Hee. Plus, my only other plug-producing male is the Axanthic, and I would rather not pair him with her because I couldn't be 100% sure the offspring would be hets or not if I lose the morph lottery and get all normals.

I have paired a male lesser up with females when he was not producing sperm when popped. But I have a clutch right now that is about to hatch and he was the only male paired up with the female so we will see what pops out but seems like he got the job done. :gj:

Big Gunns has seen some horny leeetle guys that will "lock" even if BG has never seen them produce sperm plugs when he has popped them. So the answer is probably YES. They may be producing though, but BG may just not be able to see it.

If your axanthic is a visual axanthic all the offspring would be 100% het.

Edit: Checked the sig. Yeah you'd make all hets if you paired him up.

Yes, I know. But if I'm pairing the female with both a Lesser and an Axanthic, if I get a clutch of all normals, I can't be 100% certain that the offspring are het Axanthic. It could be that I had bad odds in getting Lesser offspring.
