    Snake has something on face.

So I got this ball python from the petstore. After a couple days of having him I noticed that he has mites. I thought I got rid of them but then I noticed something in his nose and a piece of skin hanging off. Does anyone know if this is a mite or what and how do I get rid of it.

The pieces of skin could be stuck shed that partially came off, but without pics I can't really say (then again, I'm not exactly an expert ). As for sending pics, try using the app Tapatalk, completely free and great for viewing forums.

Sometimes the mites will hang out in the nose or heat pits. Is the thing you see like a small round black dot type thing?

And I second that the thing hanging off sounds like it could be piece of stuck shed. However, it’s impossible to know without pictures.

There's a possibility of it being a tick as well. Sometimes they can look like a loose scale when they hang on in odd places.

Also... if you're keeping your snake on anything other than paper towels for the moment, it will be hard to tell if there are any mites still hanging out in the habitat. I would keep him on the towels for a good 2 weeks of mite free before transferring him back to regular bedding if it was mine. But that's me being very paranoid about the little things.

What have you done to try get rid of them so far?

We don't use the attatchment system on the board - you need to hosy the picture somewhere and then link to it in your post.
