    My First Ball Python

Just got this little one and wanted to post a few pictures.
I saw this one at a Petsmart and held it a few times and it is so easy to handle and I really like the pattern I posted some pictures of her in shed about a week ago and a few with my Son holding her
They say it’s a Mahogany Girl and eats on Wednesday F/T fuzzies x 2

Congrats on your first snake! Unfortunately, you've been misinformed about feeding by the employees who sold you the snake.
Fuzzies are way to small for a BP. They eat hoppers right out of the egg, for only their first 3-5 meals. Then they quickly move up to small adult mice.

    This feeding chart should help:

    Yes, what Craig said!

Was going to post this today but Craig beat me to it. I was too tired last night.

Also, are you feeding live or F/T? Do you have a preference? What was he eating before?

Let us know if you want to switch the little guy and/or need help feeding F/T.

    Re: My First Ball Python

Thanks for the advice and kind words on the little one.
shoud I be weighing the snake to know my starting point and track growth?

Despite what’s happened in the past I will use the good advice I get here on the forum an we will do right by the animal moving forward.

The ladies at the Petsmart really seem to do the best they can for the reptile area at this store with the enclosures being clean and always clean water in each cage. Much nicer than the Petco I visited.

They vary a bit store by store, but they are somewhat restricted as to husbandry, feeding, etc... To the corporation, business tends to be top priority, even over the animals. But, there are exceptions to every rule and some heat employees out there.

As for weighing, it is nice to track growth and have records in case of food strikes, illness, etc...
I personally use the tracking feature on iherp.com.

Since I do not have a scale at this time what would be recommend for a 3-4 month old snake.
also would buying 25 of one particular size be advised.

i can buy locally from Big Cheese Rodent Factory but the quantity is 25 of any given size.
Alternatively there are Reptile Specific shops and pet stores with more basic options and smaller quantity packs available.

I would run out to Wal-Mart and grab yourself a kitchen scale. You can find a decent one for under $20.

It's tough to say, because at that ahe they grow pretty quickly. Plus, are you going to try to switch to rats? At what point if so?
