    Pieds

In the 'Question for Rack Users" thread I mentioned that my two pieds were problem feeders. Bistem came back and said two out of his three were also. I would like to hear from other pied owners on this subject. Is this common among pieds?

my lil Piebald boy – while under 300g – is an amazing eater. he was a bit finicky as a baby, but once he turned that corner he turned that friggin' corner.

just my input from my very limited experience. there's a theory that's been around for a while that Spider morphs are just phenomenal eaters, so there could be some truth to this theory as well.

    Re: Pieds

My male Pied Ghost was a late 2015 hatchling that I bought in February 2016. He was a little hard to get going at first but once he started he's eaten pretty well, however only live. He is currently off feed and hanging around 1000 grams but has already sired a clutch that is in the incubator as we speak.

At 300 grams I hope they’re eating. I notice with males that they start skipping around 700 grams or around the time I find the first sperm plugs. I never heard of pieds being any more or any less finicky.

I have several pied all of which eat like horses, it's not about the paint job.

Good genetics make a difference so will the individual animal and finding what works for them.

I have a 3500 grams Pied, and I have a female black pastel pied that reach 1600 grams in a year and a half, I have others that put on weight and eat and grow at a more normal rate.

I've heard this rumor/theory that pieds may be poor eaters.
Hatched out a few pieds these last two years and they haven't been any different than any other babies or harder to start and the ones I still have feed on their f/t rats with gusto. So in my limited experience, I haven't noticed any difference in willingness to feed.

    Re: Pieds

Of my 3 "Visuals", The only male skips probably 2 out of 4 weeks and 1 of the 2 Females skips 3 of 4 weeks. Temps, humidity, substrate, light cycle (thanks to Phillips Hue lights throughout the house), and everything else is the same for all 11 snakes. It is probably just individual snake personalities. My male Coral glow, YB, 100% het pied is my Best eater and a fairly new addition VPI axanthic, leopard, 100% het pied is eating like crazy. so it don't seem to be apparent in the hets. It just struck me strange in the other thread the OP spoke of that he was experiencing this similar situation in a pied.

BTW: I love the Phillips Hue lights. You can set timers for lights on and off at set times of the day, you can have them gradually fade on and off in 5 min to 30 min or instant on and off. Can change color to red if you need to see in that room after normal night time mode, like for feeding at night. And best of all...they are LED and consume Very little power which is nice for lights that are going to be on 12 hours a day every single day of the year.

You may have hit the nail on the head in my case. My male and female that are sometimes problem feeders both came from a person who I am not sure was even the breeder. May have been a flipper but I have no proof of this.
My Visual Female Pied that eats really well came from Garick DeMeyer (which says all that needs to be said about good genetics there).

My pied girl was a garbage can as a baby. She would literally stand up like a cobra from under a hide when i would open the cage. She ate every 4 days, then every week, and now at about 2600 grams at last weigh in, she eats whenever she wants which usually involves eating for half a year and quitting for half a year. Here she is wondering why i lifted her hide up lol.

I have had a couple pieds, both of which were among my better eaters.
