    should i use coconut husk?

So i've been struggling for a while with maintaining the right amout of humidity in my ball pythons tank and want to switch over to coconut husk substrate. I do have a box full of moist moss to help my boy regulate which helps a lot but in the past winter i've struggled a lot with bad sheds so i want to try out another substrate.
But before that I wanted to maybe get some feedback about things i should be aware of when switching to coconut husk because i've also heard of ball pythons not adjusting well to the substrate change/not liking the new substrate. Any tips?

Substrate is not really a solution for humidity issues. The reason being that if you have a dry home and a glass tank, the necessary moisture in the substrate to maintain humidity could be detrimental to the snake's health.

You would be better off either curing the humidity issues in the room, controlling the air flow into the glass tank, reducing the heat element, or switching to a better material of enclosure like PVC.

That being said coconut fiber, not husk, can be an excellent means to control odor and waste management. It also can supplement humidity control as it can retain slight moisture without becoming too damp.

Re: should i use coconut husk?

Ah yes, I meant coconut fiber, not husk, sorry, englisch is not my first language haha. I do not have a screen top on my tank but rather a screen bar of about 10cm width on the top and front, so the flow of air is not the problem i think.
I do spray the tank regulary every day to keep humidity at a good level and have 3 sides of the tank isolated, so that helps with keeping up temperature and humidity. Sadly I do not have the financial means right now to get an entirely new terrarium right now, but i do plan to do that in the future.

Re: should i use coconut husk?

I had real issues with my humidity. In the end I went bioactive with my enclosure and that helped soon much but it's an expensive solution. I'd recommend putting some live plants in pots just one or 2 with loads of leaves, and then morning and night mist the leaves this will help but you'll find you humidity with peak and trough. Otherwise like the comment above try and sort the humidity issue with the room it's in. Good luck
