AMA with an ecologist studying pythons and other species the Evergaldes

for those of you who don't use reddit: an AMA is an "Ask Me Anything" sub-section of reddit where one person opens up to questions. this one is from an ecologist and PhD candidate who earned her Masters studying the Burmese python situation in FL.

there's lots of people asking about the python situation specifically and it's pretty informative; OP has answers many questions.

    enjoy!

Reddit layout always seems confusing to this old gal but I read through most of that AMA, quite interesting. She really does feel they are a major threat to the local ecosystems and it was nice to see a view point that wasn't completely agenda biased. Thank you for sharing! I'll go back and read the rest later on.

that what i loved about the AMA and why i wanted to share it: she spent many years in the Everglades studying the ecosystem and its changes, and presents her findings in an unbiased way.

she does see Burms as a really big threat, but when she was asked to choose between eradicating the pythons in the Everglades or feral cat populations world wide, she chose cats as being the far bigger and more important problem. of course we don't see cats proudly being killed in droves for the sake of our ecosystems.

the other part i found interesting was that she mentions the biggest issue with pythons is that they're literally rearranging the food web, which is causing effects throughout the entirety of the Everglades! that's nuts! and is why people are trying to fix this issue ASAP.
