Today I checked on this big Pastel female and she is in the middle of the most extreme example of an ovulation that I've ever seen! For those that aren't sure what this is, it's at the end of the pairing up time of the breeding season when the eggs are actually fertilized inside of the female. There's usually some swelling, I've had minor ovulations, major swelling like the example below, and some really swelled up big for over a week, but most last for just a few days. They say after the snake ovulates 'you get what you get'. Additional pairing won't fertilize any more eggs. If eggs are not fertilized you get small yellow slugs, if they are fertile you get nice big pearly white eggs.
And as far as I've seen all females are off of food at this point. From here it's about 45 days until they lay eggs. Right now I'm in the middle of a crazy breeding season, I have some females on food and copulating, some ovulating, and some have already laid eggs a couple weeks ago! This is my Pastel female that I paired up with my Bamboo male. Hoping to get some Pastel Bamboos and regular single gene Bamboos. My male Bamboo is really stunning, a high white high contrast example of the morph, I'm looking forward to getting more of them!
