Lightbulb Injury, burn or something worse?

    Hello everyone,

So I have been away for the last 6 months leaving my ball python to be cared for by my mother. Since then he has been in shed and I have placed him in a new enclosure (now wood). The thing is, after taking him out today after his shed I have encountered some sort of injury to his neck and before taking him to the vet, I would like to hear your sincere opinions. I have left the photos in drive as I am having difficulties uploading them to this forum.

looks like a pretty good abrasion. i'll allow someone else more experienced with injuries reply on how to treat it.

IMO i'd keep my eye on it and, if it worsens, contact a vet.

Looks like a slight contusion or the snake equivalent. You have some scale damage and minor laceration. The concern is how deep the impact was. If the bleeding has not continued and you do not see an open wound, you might get away with cleaning the area and treating the wound.

I personally would still take it to my exotic vet if I found my snake with a cut but if you are familiar with reptile anatomy it might be fine so long as deep tissue damage is not involved or bone is involved. I would personally also avoid soaking as it might aggravate the snake and any wound. Diluted betadine or specific reptile antiseptic spray should be enough to cleanse it. Watch for signs of further scale damage or open wounds and drainage. If you notice swelling or drainage don't wait, take it to a vet.
