Eyecap problem, should I see a vet or wait it out?

Hi there, i think this snake has a retained eyecap but it looks really pushed back in a weird way. Should I wait until she sheds again or would that make things worse for her? She is around 6 or 7 years old now and I have no problem taking her to a vet if necessary but if it's just going to clear up on it's own then I would rather just leave it. She has never retained an eyecap before since I brought her into my care 6 years ago.

It looks like the flexible skin that attatches the spectacle to the rest of the scales has got pulled out a bit somehow.

Check for mites, but if you see none, it's not a huge problem. Its not bothering him at all and definitely doesn't require a vet visit. It should be fixed next shed, don't poke and prod/try to remove it because if you do, you can blind your snake.

i'm not entirely sure if i'm seeing a retained eyecap. what's your humidity at, and when was the last time the snake shed? did you notice this after the last shed?

if it is a retained eye cap i would expect to see dimpling on the eye due to poor humidity. even if it is a retained eyecap, it's not a huge deal. ensure your humidity is on point for the next shed and be sure the eyecap comes off when she sheds out.

Oh goodness I was rubbing it a little to try and move it because it was positive that it was a retained eyecap. I don't think I hurt her though because she wasn't being too wiggly. I will leave it alone.

She last shed about a little over a month ago I would say? I first saw this a couple weeks ago though but I thought it was her eye whites from looking forward but when I took her out to clean out her enclosure I noticed it was definitely a skin-like thing. As for humidity levels when i first got her of course she got dehydrated pretty badly because I had no idea what i was doing. I brought her to the vet and he suggested I just make sure her hides stay nice and moist and I've been doing that for years and she's been shedding all in one piece every time. Because of that when she used the little sticky hydrometer as leverage and pulled it off I never bothered to put it back up so I'm not sure exactly what the humidity is at.

if the last shed wasn't recent i'm going to bet it's not a retained eye cap. whenever my group sheds out, i always try to unroll and inspect the shed for missing pieces or things like a missing eye cap/tail tip; this way you'll know right away if you have a problem.

just keep an eye out on the spot, but i'm sure it will go away on its own. and PLEASE post pics after her next shed!

Yeah, that's not a retained eye cap. Just let it be and it will correct itself. It's happened to my boy as well, fixed itself in time.
