    Ball python acting strange !

So lately my ball phython has been acting strange. They have becomed more active at night always coming out when its late and i begin to turn off my houses lights. I have two night bulbs over my ball python in order to keep the ambient tempature. At night my python will come out and will beging rubbing his nose on the terrariums wall. and he'll also stretch up and place his head right under the night light. Why might he be doing this? He just ate yesterday and is not in shed and has no mites.

Well, they do come out at night (Nocturnal) and he's probably just exploring/trying to escape lol Thats what my Beep Dean does

Yeah, sounds pretty normal to me. Just exploring and trying to get out lol. As long as your husbandry is on point, you shouldn't worry.

could be for a few reasons: he's still hungry, he's cold (reaching towards the bulbs), he's exploring. it's hard to say based on a description. doesn't sound worrisome, though.

how much does he weigh and what size prey are you offering?

I don't know how much he weights, but i know he is about 1 1/2 year old, is male, looks like he has a good weight and im feeding him 2 adult mice once a week. He's suppose to eat medium rats but he refuses to eat rats and only eats mice.

you should really get a weight on him; weight is one of the best indicators of overall health for snakes. once you get a weight, you can follow this guide to help ensure he gets a good meal.

Re: Ball python acting strange !

What are your ambient temps? I noticed mine doing similar right after temps started dropping here. In fact she was getting in the top of her fake vine and sleeping right under her lamp and then I realised her ambient temp was dipping a little below 75 at night. I changed out her 50 watt bulb to a 100 with a dimmer. Now I keep her temps better and she stopped sleeping in the tree tops. She still roams a lot at night and stretches up to the light and the screen but not sleeping there anymore. She's even sleeping out in the open some but not close to the bulb. She's only about 3 months old.
